During the last build, I pulled out the original leds. XM-L of some flavor. Out of seven, four of them looked like they had been sanded, but I think they were possibly overheated and the domes looked more like frosted glass.
I mean, they were rough looking. Well, I got the cure!
Looky here!
With some super secret O-L Polish, the dome magically transforms!
And...
Here's all four of them. At least three look just about as good as new.
So...
I have a special sale this week-end and this week-end only!
O-L's Miracle Polish! Created just for polishing LEDs!
Ummmmm, maybe I shoulda used more spray paint on that derned Mothers can, before I relabeled it.
Anyhow, I was really surprised that the true miracle polish "Mothers", polished out those domes. I used an old white cotton sock and just rubbed very carefully all the way around the domes a few times. They look good enough to go into some simple lights.
I’m not surprised this worked. I have used metal polish to great effect on acrylic, these high grit polishes will work on anything hard enough.
Some people use toothpaste as their ‘go to’ polish for this kind of odd job (car headlights, scratched up acrylic watch crystals etc) but I have never had much success with that my self.
Nice. I will have to give it a go and see if it will remove a burnt patch from a poorly assembled light where the isolator scorched it. I am really dumb sometimes.
