Yeah, that’s a whole other ballgame. An upside down reflector (wavien type collar) would actually focus all of the light back onto the led and then out of the lens. There’s threads upon threads of that here. You may luck up and find someone that can make you one.
Yes, J have come across those, and as you say a whole new ball
game. But I was thinkong more along the lines of the reflectors that are / were used in military style spot/search lights. They create a parallel
beam using a reflector.
Having a parabolic reflector behind an aspherical lens won’t help in throw at all - it’s pointless, but it will probably create more messy “rings” around your hotspot.
An ellipsoidal reflector however could focus (collect) your lightsource beam into a point and then disperse it into an aspherical lens, works well for incan or HID bulb as what we can see in many automotive projector headlamps, but again it is pointless for LED setup.
Note: An LED emits light in a certain direction, while light bulbs emit light to all directions (360 degree), hence it makes the difference.
I was planning to do that, but I looked for any other peoples builds using recoil+LED and only found one build which was meh, so I have nothing to go off and little inspiration.
Maybe some time in the future if I have spare moneys I will try that.
It will be much larger than an aspheric flashlight but should have a tighter beam from my calculations.
