IMHO, original FT03 was unbeatable
Only ~500lm sustained and still unregulated? That’s a little bit of a joke…
The ramping leap is driving me crazy, a decent amount of light for dog walking is just beyond the point it suddenly shoots up.
Agreed.
Swapped mine frome XHP50.2 to XHP50.3 and is still my go to thrower. Just a lovely useful beam. Mine dropped a couple of meters onto concrete nearly no damage at all!
Similar performance to most fet Anduril model throwers though. The Wurkkos TS30S Pro and Convoy L21B SFT/SBT90.2 FET aren’t any better.
Sustains around 400m range at almost 600 lumens. If a regulated driver was used that bumped it to 1000, that’s only an increase of 150m which isn’t much. If we’re talking useful range then divide by 2.5 for a 60m increase.
Range = brightness
I agree. It’s not a regulated flashlight and Astrolux could have done so much better here. I also reviewed this one and honestly i sort of like the first Pro more. It throws way better even though it’s not as bright. The ramping on the first pro was better too. The ramping on the V2 is worse.
I don;t know about Wurkkos but Convoy switched to buck a while ago so now they should do better.
I still use the fet driver in the L21B because it’s weapon mounted and the buck driver has no positive spring. The buck driver’s group 10 is messed up too which is super annoying, it’s 1%, 35%, 50%, 100%.
It’s horrible. It seems to be their solution to the quick ramp at the lower end in their previous models.
Anduril and Anduril2 have thr best ramping of any flashlight UI out there. Haikelite had a good one, and Matemincos wasn’t bad, but these new Astrolux UIs are just bad. I don’t know much about how all that works, but you’d think in 2025 (late!) Theyd be taking advantage of advances in AI to develop better UIs.
Agreed. The OG version FT03S was superior in every way. This new version was an aggressive cost saving blunder, which lacks the mass and surface area needed to exchange heat at those power levels. I own several of the OG versions, and Im lucky to also own copper FT03S lights… nothing compares to them in this category. I gifted my FT03 Pro and never missed it.
Ahhhh, the copper FT03S. The one that got away. I was able to get the brass when BG was clearing them out.
Thank you for you review. That’s great!
I think we were both lucky to grab them while they were still available. If you own 26800 cells, the optional battery tube is interchangeable with the copper version (so presumably the brass version as well). I have several versions I keep in rotation while walking the dog at night.
Agree.
This light takes 18650, 21700, and 26650 as is. More than enough for me.
