The thread on this disappeared, or at least I can’t find it, so here is a new one. Maybe they can be merged when things get straightened out.
This is apparently a re-branded BLF A6.
I guess it is not a surprise that there are mistakes and surprises. The main sport is to get better lights for ourselves. To me, it adds something if that results in everybody getting better lights. It means we are doing serious development work, even though we are not getting paid for it. I hope other manufacturers copy parts of it. It may be too much to hope that anybody adhere to copyright rules.
They really should update the list of firsts by calling them seconds, though.
Even the box looks like an EE clone lol they’re definitely trying and if under $15 maybe I’ll buy but my original A6’s are golden. It doesnt sit well with me about how it all came about. Hopefully no astrolux X6s.
I didn’t see the ending, but I saw the humor right away in the beginning. It was a contender to the BLF comedy relief thread of the year. Too bad I missed the ending. :_(
According to Godwin’s Law (Godwin's law - Wikipedia), this thread should end now, but I think you managed it in such a light spirit that I hope it will continue.
Personally i don’t like this idea of BLF “limited” runs if we or someone here come up with a great concept why shouldn’t that sell for as long as it is profitable for the manufacturers.
I just want everyone who wants great lights to ge able to buy them, this limited edition so my light I bought gets “exclusive” dosen’t feel very BLF at all, and i really hope that idea dosen’t take root here.
I suspect “BLF Limited” means we who signed up get the agreed-upon price for that limited period of time.
After that time, if it’s successful, the makers and sellers have the opportunity to find out what the market will bear.
I agree that exclusive is not what BLF is about. But I don’t agree with someone taking years of a team’s hard work and stealing it. I’m sure the team would have agreed to cooperate with these new plans, but it seems the manufacturer just helped themselves to it in secret. Maybe they didn’t want to share profits.
Heck, for all we know it’s being stolen by someone that didn’t even help create the original. It looks the same, but maybe some crook called Manker and asked to have them sell him the hosts with his logo. We just don’t know. That’s the disrespectful part.
Speaking only for myself obviously I like the idea of us getting the latest and coolest stuff first preferably with the BLF logo after that I like the idea for the ideas and techniques the Brainiacs come up with here filtering down into ‘normal’ lights.
I posted this in the deleted thread. Manker and Banggood did not do anything deceitful here. This is Banggood's house brand. I knew about Astrolux long ago.
I looked at it this way. The BLF A6 has raised the bar to a new height for what a tube light can be. This design would never have been realized through the manufacturers on their own who cater to the general consumer. I would like to see whoever sells this to keep the name BLF A6 to honor the group who put so much effort into the development. In time people won’t remember the fine prints or the line of attribute, but they will talk about how incredible the Astrolux is. Wouldn’t it be nice for users out there to know this great light, against which all tube lights to come will surely be compared to, was developed by BLF in 2015 ?
In the spirit of TK, this should be shared, not exclusive to just us.
And let’s be fair, Manker got involved in building the light for us, so we can realize our dreams, and they should be allowed to profit from it too.
But don’t sell this as a Astrolux, sell this as it is, a BLF A6.
That seems like a thumbs up from bugsy36 for consent, and ToyKeeper said no problem. How about Alex Wells? Anyone else? It seems they are getting the permission they need. In that case I agree it would be cool they continue under the BLF name. This Astrolux vehicle is un necessary then.
