Astrolux S41 Alternatives?

ive yet to recive my s41, but feels the design on that one is hard to beat and its kinda cheap.

Ok I’ll say it: get both!

I love my S41, but if you ordered an S2+, you might want to try one of these, or these with it sometime.

I like the “wall of light” from my S41, but it’s heavy, and it gets pretty hot on turbo. My EDC at the moment is a Jaxman E2 (nichia) head with the TIR on an S2+ 18350 body. For indoors, and < 20 yard use, it I love it. The warm tint, and perfectly even hot-spot-free beam just make it easier to see stuff for my normal flashlight usage. It’s not as bright as an S41, and no wow-factor, but I find it really useful and safe.

D4 can sustain around 1000 lumen (am guessing) at max 70’C settings so don’t worry about the heat as long as you don’t max out at 4,300lm continuosly (it will step down anyway if it goes above 70’C) D4 is the perfect light IMHO :+1:

S2+ with shorty tube for an 18350, and 20mm TIR lens.

I’m on a TIR rampage lately, and TIRs cure a multitude of sins.

I see someone recommended a pebbled TIR lens. Never tried one, but MascB did side-by-side tests for them, and they may be exactly what you’re looking for.

Ah, you did mention the S2+. I missed that.

Yep, same as with most of my lights. No need to light up a sports-arena with a single flashlight, so what I got suits me just fine.

And if a regular S2+ gets scalding hot left on high (8×7135) for too long, I imagine it’ll get even hotter and faster with a shorty tube, and with that much less thermal mass and surface area!

Sorry but the D4 is plain ugly next to the S41. If looks mean nothing get the D4.

TIR, yep me to LB just love the beam profile and like with the DQG’s with the luminous tape around the top edge that glow is beautiful.
And it’s D4 all the way over the S41 style lights for me and I have bunches of them mostly because they are so darn nice looking, I love copper, but for performance and beam the D4 just stomps mud holes in the S41, not to mention the option of the 18350 and 500 tubes which by the way will be interchangeable with the upcoming D1 thrower, I’ve seen beam shots of the D1 and it is awesome, highly recommended if the OP is still trying to find a light and looking at the A6 still, oh hey, here you go here’s some beam shots, D4 and D1 beam shots

I think I do own one 8x S2+, but based on the lack of heat on high, lack of chips on the back of the driver, and the stated max of 370 lumens, I suspect my Jaxman E2 is 4x-ish.

I’m trying to resist the D4 (and soon, the D1), because I frequently hand my EDC light to people ages 3 and up for a few minutes. I just don’t need, and keep telling myself I don’t even want, any more hot-rods. Well, after I get a Q8 and a GT, THEN I won’t need any more hot-rods.

BTW, just made a comparison using a TIR in a S2+ (XML2 T6-4C) and in the Amutorchs (XPG3-S3 and Nichia 219C). ("Review": Amutorch Stainless Steel XPG3-S3 AA flashlight [Modded TIR Lenses] - #65 by MascaratumB)

Manker E14 II doesn’t seem a good option for you?

Today I saw these videos about the E14II and the D4:

S41 is €18 now with code on banggood. A must buy for that price.

What code?

Thank you

This was a great suggestion - I received my BLF A6 on Saturday when I arrived home. It has only been a day or so, but I already like this light a lot. The output is terrific, the flood is near perfect for around the house and shed type stuff, it's a great size, and it takes an 18650, which I have tonnes of (because they're great too). I've put a ring magnet in the tail, and I think this light will see a lot of action. My only regret is that I had to buy it in cool-white, because they were out of neutral when the special was running, but I'll get over it.

Build quality seems good too. The emitter was seated properly, and all of the retaining rings were torqued perfectly. The only thing that I needed to do was put a little bit of air gun grease on the o-rings, as they were completely dry.

bought it on a sale almost a month ago, still havent recieved the damn thing :frowning: knew it was too good to be true lol guess i start a request for refund as my first purchase there sad….

I wouldn't panic just yet - I am also in Europe, and things from BangGood seem to take a month or so to arrive. Sometimes, if it's something little, and you are lucky, and Neptune is in the sky, it can arrive within three weeks.

GearBest works much quicker for me (despite them being flamed in another thread). Normally spot on two weeks for them. But BangGood is still awesome for electronic components.

It's all being shipped for free from China, so a month in transit is quite okay by my expectation.

Relax, 4-6 weeks is still normal from china. It will probably arrive the day after you opened a dispute :person_facepalming:

ok, yeah gearbest is also my fav site to buy from, usually 2 weeks and stuff arrive, not sure why banggood is so slow compared… i been itchy ever since i saw the s41 want the light to arrive so i can play  guess i wait a little while more then.

Yeah thats how it usually works haha! must be millions of packs shipping from china if u saw all boxes u would freak out lol…
