Yes , with Carclo quad optics :

But you will need to add some copper under the mcpcb (1-2mm ?) because the height of the optic is different . Some people have done it.

If you want to put in a t-pad quad and Carclo optics, you need to add a mm or two to shim up the stack to match the stock height. I used a old triple noctigon that I filed the whole top off to make a copper slug out of it. That does add a few ounces of mass. I bought two S41’s, and one is now a 219C quad, and the other is XP-G3. Love them both. Dale, I see what you mean about the rosey aura! I do like it a lot! It is a nice bright white though… What I would like is an 18500 battery tube. A lit…

Well, I am in touch with Chloe at BG so I am hoping to resolve this. Assuming I do, is the consensus of opinion that the recommended battery for this is the purple Efest IMR 700mAh, 10.5A flat top? And anywhere I should buy or avoid buying these due to counterfeits (I don’t think BangGood sells them).

I don’t doubt the Efest is better, but I am happy with the BestFire 18350 IMR in mine. I ordered another one. Bestfire 18350 IMR

Put long 18650 tube on with a 30q. Dang this light rocks! But I like it better with the short tube in place. My current fave light. Still surprises me how powerful the S41 is.

There are no threaded holes in the tailcap, but slots. So I used nuts, between the side of the tailcap and the boot.
There was no need to enlarge the slots with a file or something like that.

Thanks. I asked because this clip fits the (unthreaded) holes in the tailcap of my A6 just fine, but the S41’s unthreaded holes are set just a little closer together so the same clip wouldn’t work. Just to be clear, when you say ‘slots’ are they round or elongated?

I understand most people want the maximum amps possible.

I’m wondering if there’s a way to cap the amps out of any of the readily available drivers, so I can use triple amber or red emitters without drastically reducing the lifetime of the emitters.

Is there a setting I’m missing, or do you just flash the driver so its highest level is less than 100 percent?

Giving the firmware a lower ceiling could work, but isn’t ideal. It would be alternating between too much current and none at all.

You could also go oldschool and stack 7135 chips to get the right amount of power. RMM still sells qlite drivers (or his “moonlight special”, which is very nice), and still offers 7135 chip stacking for an extra fee. You could configure either one for a maximum of ~4.5 amps in order to provide 1.5 to each emitter. You might run into clearance issues on the spring side though, if chips are stacked too high.

This is the way that I am thinking.

I don’t want to rub it in, until I receive mine, but at least for the Nichia version, if you study djozz’s graph, in my post it should be rather obvious that if the cell can provide 3.5V or more to the LED, under load, then that is far too much.

Given the FET driver (direct drive, PWMed), this is what will happen at every setting above the 350mA level, where only the 7135 is in service.

The XP-G2 apparently can handle it. But without the nice tint.

A little bit of resistance in series, as suggested by Dale, or a low current 18350 cell, might avoid this. Spring bypasses and strong 18650 cells will be utterly counter-productive.

In my judgement.

I think (I hope) that Manker used the V1 version of Nichia 219B, I tested it later (link ) and on a copper board it tops at 4A, so if the quad stays under 16A, preferably at 9.6A (I like my leds at 80% of maximum output), you’re good:

Just today I got my Astrolux S41 (Nichia version) in, just measured it on a fully charged dark purple Efest 18350 cell. The current is 9.2A (measured with tail off, replaced by thick copper loop and clamp meter), the output (with tail so the current will be a tad lower) is 1600lm at 3 seconds after switch-on, 1360lm after 30 seconds.

So on a good 18350 cell, apart from that this light is too small for 25W power ( ), when the battery is full, the leds are driven close to their (IMO) current sweetspot.

Sorry I did not express myself clear enough. From this picture I “borrowed” from djozz in the “What did you mod today?” thread you can see that the holes in the tailcap are slightly elongated. And my clip also came from a BLF SE A6 tailcap.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess the QC issues in this light extend to the holes in the tailcap — as you can see here, mine are slightly closer together than on my A6, and aren’t elongated like yours.

I like the fit of an Armytek Prime clip (see below) better than the included stock clip, which gets sort of pushed out of place by the head of the light. But I’d rather be using a screwed-on clip than a friction fit.
