Audi with LASER headlihgts???

i just saw this

That doesn't have much or any useful information, just a bunch of marketing numbers that provide numbers without a reference point. The most useful article I saw said it has a smaller diode than LED's which means it can use smaller optics, but like this article, it doesn't say which LED, so it could be slightly smaller than the huge LED's used in high bay lights.

In any case, it's probably just like the BMW version. A LED with phosphors that are excited by a laser instead of electricity. The diode is on a pedestal facing backwards into a reflector. Cooling may be an issue since the diode is on a long pedestal instead of a thick headsink.

this is what i was expecting lols.

…reasonable and modest expectations…

Thanks. I always forget what this type of optic design is called: recoil.

saablaster has stated laser lighting will be the future of throw (hi-cri on the other hand…? :p)

i was confused by the bmw design for a while… is that a tiny tir lens recoiling the light onto a mirror? or just bare phosphor?
beam looks quite quite good btw

what are the two permutations mentioned in that post? i can think of three, forward facing optic, optic+mirror, and a parabolic reflector?
