Just tried to purchase another light from Banggood and as I was finalizing the buy,
I noticed that they were charging me 38% sales tax. I guess their solution to the
US finally putting tariffs on Chinese goods when China has been putting tariffs
on US goods for decades, has resulted in some Chinese vendors increasing our
sales tax by about 400%. Must have started on May 1st because I’d just
bought a light from Banggood two weeks ago and the sales tax was my normal rate.
While I would like to have had the new light, no way am I paying 38% sales tax, so, looks like
Banggood has lost a customer.
I don’t know if CN and USA already agreed on a procedure to handle things.
But if I buy something form CN, the Dutch government wants to collect VAT on that something.
So the CN company charges me with the VAT and sends that to the Dutch tax collector.
Some companies don’t do that. In that case customs gets an alert no VAT is collected.
They bring in a customs clearance agency for which I will have to pay a handling fee.
Sorry that BG lost a customer, though they are not to blame for it.
The reason for tariffs is to make foreign goods more expensive, thus giving domestic made goods an edge.

I hear ya on they are not totally to blame but, it must not be across the board
because I just bought a light from Neal’s two days ago and the tax was normal. Have
to wait and see if Neal’s will also raise tax rates in the future. We are all pawns
for the ways of our governments. Glad I obtained 95% of the lights I want before
the tariff games began.
