I’ve just taken posession of an older LED torch and I’d like to see if I can get it working… It’s about a 20 Cm long, is marked with Cree-ABX and has a lime green tail switch… I can find very little info but think that it needs 2x18650 batteries.
I’m in the UK and wondered if it would be better to try to source batteries and a charger from a local stockist or would Amazon/Ebay be asfe… As my interestest in torches has been renewed, I’d like to get a decent charger for future use…
See if you can measure the battery tube, if it’s 140mm long you can use protected batteries, which are recommended for flashlights in serial configuration, if it’s less you need to use unprotected batteries. In both cases you need button tops.
Thanks for the advice, I’ve found the Fogstar website. I’ll investigate the tube length and see what I come up with.
The battery contact at the LED end is a small spring that spirals out to 10mm… I’ll go for part charger cells and see what happens
Are you referring to THIS flashlight. I would be very cautious to invest any money and effort into it.
Have you seen it in action? If not, there is a reasonable chance you are throwing good money after bad money. These lights are not meant to be opened, repaired and re-assembled (no threads but press-fit parts). If you were an experienced modder, it would be quite a challenge trying to surprise us with your skills. But if you are a novice …… sigh.
It sounds like the type of flashlight i’ve gotten for free for buying a couple batteries
Something like the Sofirn sc31b has onboard charging comes with battery & cable for 10-16$ and probably way better is a light as well
