Battery bank use questions.

I purchased a pair of these from Banggood for Christmas presents for use with smartphones etc… The specs are Battery type: Li-Polymer battery
Capacity: 2600mAh, Input: Micro USB 5V/1A, Output: USB 5V/1A and after charging for 14 hours the only one we used wouldn’t charge the phone we used for a test (a Samsung Galaxy 3) using the charger that came with the phone. The phone is used daily, and has held a charge since the test. The red indicator light on the battery bank stayed lit for the entire 14 hours, and we haven’t attempted to continue charging after not being able to recharge the smartphone.

Which leads to a few questions:

  1. Why didn’t the battery in the battery bank charge?
  2. Assuming we’re able to get the battery in the battery bank to charge, should you be able to use it to charge the phone battery while using the phone?
  3. What happens if you connect the phone and the battery bank is series to the charger? This doesn’t sound like a good idea, but there wasn’t any warning about this in the instructions that came with the battery bank - at least not in the ones we could read.

Try again, if it is still not working the only way to find out what is wrong is to disassemble it and check the power bank with a DMM.
Usually these type of battery bank is screwed or clipped together, remove the stickers on top and bottom to check for screws.

1) Do you have another USB cable to try? I bought a few “power banks” recently, and a couple of them had faulty cables.
One of my 2600mah power banks (which is similar to yours) took about 4-5 hours until the red light went off and a green light appeared. 14 hours seems a very long time though!
2) Yes

Check the voltage with a meter.

i have purchased a few of these from various places a while ago and when I dissembled I found used (rusty and reshrink) cell that tested around 800-1000mah. I have since bought a few of ipower ones which had samsung cells inside that held rated capacity.

Some of these types of power packs won’t charge your phone while the the power pack is also plugged in.

HKJ has done test / reviews for some USB power boxes.
