Hello BLF’ers,
The last cells I bought were in 2013 and they were ncr18650b.
I want big watt hour cells for power banks only. Therefore only looking at 3A draw Max.
Also reliable cells that can take 100-200 cycles easily and not lose too much capacity.
Cost is not a huge concern just want proven good quality cells.
Please advise. Thanks!

The ones you bought in 2013 are probably still best for capacity/runtime.

The only cycle testing comparing several commonly available cells I’ve seen are in this thread by Docware : https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=103092&start=425#p1558437
Pajda also started publishing tests further in the thread. (Both are also user here).
LG MJ1, M36, Samsung 50E and 29E7 come out on top, discharge current is 2.5/3.75A for 18650/21700, and this is a partial discharge test , 4.1-3.4V.

Pajda just created a new thread with a bunch of 1k cycle test data at 5C disharge and 100% SOC and DOD.
After reviewing both of those threads, I’ll say that the cycle life and storage life characteristics of modern cells are better than expected.

Hmm. 40T looks like a really good cell in Pajda’s tests. 50S shows it’s weakness in CL.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.
Yes, the Panasonics served me well but are looking a little run down now.
Possibly a newbish question…
I want to build around 10 power banks (not for resale) but for use in a project.
Would like to keep costs reasonable but performance up as much possible.
Do Xiaomi or Romoss produce quality power banks and to just buy ready bought, instead if diy?
Do they generally use quality lipoly/lion cells?
Probably a question for the other forum…

The highest capacity 18650 cells are the Tesla NCR18650T1 cells from Vapcell
These tests below only note my personal ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the...
Vapcell sent these in a generic wrap and calls them “Tesla NCR18650T1”, giving them a 10A 3400mAh rating. I do not know if that model number is accurate or if these cells are used in Teslas.
These cells are the best performing over-3000mAh cells I have tested, beating both the Sanyo NCR18650GA and Molicel M35A (by just a little) and the LG MJ1 (by a lot). I was hoping they would be great cells as they use much newer tech than those other top performers.
The two cells I tested delivered 3485mAh and 3504mAh, meeting Vapcell’s 3400mAh rating.
There are no datasheets available AFAIK and I don’t know this cell’s true ratings but 10Α and 3400mAh seems reasonable. Like any Li-Ion round cell, you use this cell at your own risk.

Thanks but the NCR18650T1 seems hard to find locally.
Front runner is the 35e

The INR21700-48X has a cycle life of 3000 to 70%.
