Best cheap EDC self defense flashlight

I also have a large I think 4 or 6 D cell mag lite that I changed the bulb out of for a led and it works fine big and heavy which is why I take it camping with me.

If I wanted a flashlight for self defense I’d go with something like this:

Although this is more Offensive-Defensive than just Defensive and not great for pocket carry.

right…. :person_facepalming:

Yes, it should work pretty well, if you manage to grab your light fast and turn it on in the high mode and point it right in the thug’s eyes…

UI is superb. Dedicated turbo momentary / on tail switch with adjacent strobe activation switch are my top likes. This is a very versitile light and bright enough and tough enough to do the job. Just an awesome package IMHO.

The WowTac A1S is a good option!

May have been a dream but I thought at a county fair not too long on the cheap knives and trinkets table I saw combo tazer-flashlights. Anyone aware if there is such a thing and are any actually potentially useful?

All this talk about a light not being a self defense tool is BS in my opinion. I live in the US and am armed properly but in countries where citizens have little or no firearm options, a light can be a great addition to a self defense plan! “Addition” I typed before the armchair warriors start piping up….not the only option of course.
A bright light, shining in someone’s eyes, especially on strobe is a DETERRENT and can be very disorienting. I like the Klarus and Fitorch offerings with a paddle next to the on/off for direct access to strobe instead of special modes that require a series of clicks from a main control button. Those two list prices on most units are a little over your $30 budget without a good discount code. Having said that, I got two Fitorch MR26 for $30 shipped and they are great lights outputting around 1500 lumens real world. They arrived last week and I like them. Maybe someone else has posted a review.
Just my $0.02….

Most important thing is, that you have to have the light ready IN YOUR HAND before you are getting attacked. So I think your approach for a small light is right. If it’s too big you won’t carry it directly on you and a light in a handbag or backpack is otherly useless for self defense.
I personally think, flashlights are overrated and underrated at the same time for self defense for different reasons.
For example I think strike bezels are utter rubbish. To effectively use a strike bezel you have to already be trained well enough in boxing/sparring that you can dodge, block and anticipate attacks. And then you probably wouldn’t need a strike bezel anyway.
Strobe…. I have seen multiple people test it and tested it on myself with different lights and I just did not see a different effect than getting blinded by a higher mode of the flashlight (even though other people report differently and there are threads full of discussion just about how effective or ineffective strobe really is).

I think, this guy for example (he was a police officer for some years before he opened his self defense gym) has a much more realistic approach to flashlights for safety and self defense than most of those Youtube channels with “tactical” in their name have (though I think you can get away with more lumen output lights as well, as the blinding effect will always be lower on you than on the person you are directly blinding with it. Anything over 1000 Lumen is probably wasted though, meaning you can just buy older lights as well):

I would personally go for a flashlight that has an on/off button on the tail which starts the light in a high output mode with a simple press (ideally you can activate it momentarily). And for something with a throwier beam (which means it has much higher intensity in the center of the beam than on the outside as opposed to a floodier beam). It does not have to be turbo mode, but not moon, low or the last mode you used and have no idea what it will be (mode memory). So, I wouldn’t go for the S41. It’s floody, starts in low or mode memory and turbo is not instantly reachable.

The best one for self defense and decent out put is the Batlight. Relatively decent priced and very effective. PM me for details.

Buy a 6D M@g.

Fill it with concrete.

God damn it, hank xD

Oops. I didn’t mean to bring up a religious issue.

Got to get one of these. Sheer defensive tool.
