I don’t know much about flashlights, and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on which to get for a rather unusual situation.
During a magic show, I shine a light on a card for 10 seconds, so the audience can see through it. Currently I’m using the Sofirn BLF SP36. The amount of light it gives is great, and even more than I need, but it’s a lot of weight and space to carry for 10 seconds.
What would be some good flashlights that would give a lot of light, but with less size and weight?
Something less expensive would be great, and bonus if it has a slightly wider beam, and is available in Australia. Overheating shouldn’t be an issue, since I’m using it for such little time.
I have been looking over some other options (mostly Sofirn and Wurkkos), but I get the impression the amounts of lumens advertised can be subjective, and most of them don’t mention the weight.
The light you have looks like it uses 3 18650 cells. It’s hard to know how much light you need for your trick, but getting a light with 1 cell instead would be a good start. If you only need 10 seconds of light, Sofirn has single 18650 lights. I have a SP21 that weighs 50ish grams, compared to the 300g of your SP36. Lumens max at around 1000, but maybe that’s enough?
That sounds perfect for the lighting it up part, but I wasn’t sure if any good small lightweight versions exist. If there are, I should definitely check them out.
1 cell for theoretically give the same power as 3 cells, but for 1/3 as long? If so, I should definitely focus my search on 1 cell options.
I think that 300g must be the weight without the battery. I just weighed mine, and it’s 432g, so something like the SP21 would be an even bigger weight saving.
Seeing as you are already familiar with Sofirn, the SC13 should be right up your alley.
It’s very compact and weighs around 66g with battery. The advertised 1100lm max brightness seems plausible and would probably do the trick. It’s also very floody and has good colour rendering.
