So far, many choices. I consider a fully driven (2.5+A) XM-L “lots of light” for a everyday light.
You’d be surprised how much you’ll use this thing once you have one, especially if you’re outdoors in the dark. With all the small lights, heat is an issue if you are shooting for over 500 lumens OTF.
Within the next week, I’ll have some more lights to test which may handle heat better than the UF-2100 that I carry now. With the modified driver, it’s a great light, but it needs more mass and surface area to help cool the thing. I haven’t been happy enough with any light. I’m starting to think a tube 26650-based light may be the near perfect EDC due to the increased mass of aluminum, and the longer battery life is a plus. I have an 18650 with a little more mass and fins coming to try, and the 26650 equivalent. With any of these, I’d be using E1320’s drivers as those provide great modes for pretty much any light that is one 3.7v cell/one emitter.
How do you plan on carrying the light (pocket, clip, etc)? How much throw do you want it to have/distance?
On another note, the Trustfire mini-01 works great as a keychain light.
