Big 120 Watt Halogen Spotlight

A123, here’s the link to the rest if you want: http://slickdeals.net/advanceauto-parts-coupons/

Thanks, I'll probably order it sometime soon. :)

Now remember this thing weighs about 10lbs. And it only runs on high for about 10 min.

Whatever, it throws well. :)

That’s totally the attitude of those topfuel dragsters.

“But it goes 1/4 mile on 20 gallons of fuel” “Whatever, it goes fast”

Those halogens would really kick ass with an HID mod. I picked up a Tractor Supply $25 6?” halogen H3 floor sample with no 12vDC/120vAC adapters for $12.50. Stripped the two 6v SLA batteries. Installed a 55w HID ballast from DX, H3 35w 5000k and power it with ”Notebook salvage 18650s” pack setup with balance leads 4s3p 16.8v@7200ma. After inital start up when it settles down runs at 15v+@ 4.7A input with a full charge. Although I believe this is a 6.5MCP Thor mine is identical but all black and marked 15MCP…lol! Even was able to salvage one of the 6vSLA batteries for one of my feeders.

HID would increase your lumens and your battery life.

I have one of these spotlights and i bought it from sportsmans guide. It rocks had it for 3 years and the battery went bad so just need to get a new one and bang back in business. Where did you get the brighter bulb at ILIKE? I think mines has either a 65w or 55w bulb in it! Cant find it on the website anymore.

also this looks interesting. i am sure someone has it. If they do is it good for an upgraded led? Is this a good price?

Rayovac Indestuctible

I don't have it but I got to see it in action and it was Ok. Maybe equivalent to a Sipik SK68.

If this thing really consumes 120W on high wouldn't converting it to a 35W HID bring the battery life up from around 15 minutes to around 45?? That would be a big plus in my book.

+1 Exactly. my 35w stock HID Mega Illuminator pulled <3.5a. It has been modded to 55w.

Wow Alex that mod you put on that is unreal! Thats some super work and injenuity!

LINK definately worth the time to read!!!

Sorry dont mean to re-direct the OP

I have the smaller version (if you can call it that) of this light… without the “turbohead” upgrade. I got it for $14 at Big Lots. Mine came with the smaller 55W H4 lamp and its still a serious throw monster. Awesoem bang for the buck. The OEM SLA cell died about 6 months ago though, so I’ll have to get a new one soon.

I SOOO wish I could buy these locally at those prices! I cant hardly find one where I live!

I am not envious. Green is a natural color

Just get a 55W.

92 bucks shipped to your place. There are some things to note like security the ballast inside with newspapers (so PM the seller first). If you look at the feedback you can see bihibang’s purchase from Malaysia.

It’s usd72 shipped to my country.

Leave the 100W upgrades out of the picture first. Getting just the ballast is not expensive, a single piece is $40 shipped to my country (no bulb - you can overdrive the 55W bulb for short 2 min runs and yes the big black finned ballast would fit this host no issue as I have done it, barely fits though…hehe)

Where’s Pok?

2100, How well does that one throw?

If i rem correct it should be ~ 700k.

Wow, I will definitely be getting that over the Halogen. :) Thanks.

How is this recharged? Would they send the appropriate charger for Australia?

Yes, they have the appropriate 110V/240V autosense charger, actually it’s just an adapter. The battery pack has a 12V 5.5AH SLA inside, actually one of my lights has a faulty charging circuit in the light (adapter is fine)….I use my hobby charger to charge with some plastic clips. LOL!
You can also use a 15V adapter to charge as well ba….not too high a current though. SLAs are somewhat hardy/safe not to mention extremely cheap, just don’t let it be totally discharged.

Do a search here, the term to search for is SM5200.

For any halogen light, as long as there is enough space you can put in the black finned ballasts. If not, then get the slim ballasts (which i’d recommend getting the 55W as the best value for money and not the 70 or 75W ultra slim ballasts as they might not put out enough juice).

For SM5200 - 38.90 shipped. Can use the 55W bulb. If burst, just get another pair at 14 bucks shipped (choose your colour temp!). For any HID purchase, remember to state the appropriate bulb. Actually you can get 5000K as well, still very bright. 4300K is somewhat creamy, like your road going Audi/BMW HIDs.

For halogen spots like ILF’s….you’d need the kit. Either that or you get the ballast above + 1 pair of H4 bulbs.

Note : Chinese 100W/75W bulbs have the same arc gap of about 5.5mm. They have higher lumens say 1000 bulb lumens(efficiency) but lower throw than 55W or 35W. That’s approx 100lm/W. There are no brand names 100W bulbs i believe, but for the lower power 120lm/W is not unheard of. The Chinese bulbs take a hit, but heck this is budgetlightforums.

55W bulbs have about 3mm gap. If you overdrive this it has lower lumens say maybe 8500 bulb lumens, but quite a bit better throw. However just within 1-2 mins of overdriving, the electrodes in the bulb would be shortened and you get maybe 4mm. But still better throw.

The kits are usually about 95 bucks shipped via CPAM. I got mine at 103usd shipped via DHL (fast) but can’t find it.
