Scrumpypaul,
No one has done a review of the aluminum set. Feature by feature, they are basically the same as the SS/Cu set. The only differences are:
- AL set can physically lock out the flashlight by twisting the tailcap.
- AL set is lighter in weight.
- There was some discussion as to which set sheds heat better: The AL set because the anodized finish radiates heat better or the SS/Cu set because of greater mass/heat conductivity to hand.
- One of the sets differed in the type of reflector being screwed in (I can’t remember which one).
- Complaints on QC of smooth reflectors seemed to be more prevalent in the SS/Cu versions (but that may simply be because the the AL versions came out later and people tend not to post issues that have already been discussed).
- The stock SS/Cu sets might be slighter brighter than the AL sets because of better electrical conductivity of the barrel (based on one user report).
- Generally speaking, the hard anodized finish of the AL set is in more pristine condition than the occasionally machine marred/scratched/dented SS/CU sets.
So, keeping in mind these small differences, you can find all that you need to about the AL set by looking at a review of the SS/CU set: A first look at the BLF/Kronos Limited Edition X6/X5 SS & Cu Boxd Set
