As an old lurker of the forum, today i broke my BLF Q8.
It fell to the ground from 1.9 meters high and it still works perfectly.
However the glass lens is broken (as shown in the picture below). I tried to disassemble the lamp completely to access the broken glass and remove it (and especially to have an exact measurement of this glass to order a new one). I did not succeed... I spent several hours trying to watch many videos on Youtube and the posts on the forum but I did not find the answer ... I hope i don't have to remove the bezel ...
Do you have any idea how to fix it?
Which lens (and may be which seller?) would you recommend to replace the broken one?
It seems that I might have had to ask my question in another category of the forum (“Flashlight Modding and DIY Parts category” - thanks to NeutralFan for his advice). If moderation wishes to delete my post, I will re-post in the appropriate category.
That’s modding 101.
Take one of your flip-flop’s. Lay it on the table upside down.
Now take the flashlight and place it head down on the sole of your flip-flop.
Firm grab the finned part of your Q8 and turn it counter clockwise, while pushing down hard.
Now the stainless steel bezel will come loose. This will take you about 1 minute.
After removing the SS bezel you can see and grab the glass lens, sitting on a black O-ring.
PS: make sure the flip-flop does not rotate with the light. maybe somebody can hold the flip-flop.
I will try immediately! Thank you for these very precise instructions!
Yes, I tried to contact them today on their website throught whatsapp but they invited me to contact them on Monday. I’ll try on Aliexpress if I fail on their website.
I tried with two different flip-flops (in case it was a problem of density of the material of the flip-flops). I almost exploded a vein on my forhead as it is so difficult … I put all my weight but impossible. In the picture in my first comment you will see that the bezel was deformed by the impact during the fall. I wonder if that doesn’t make it more difficult yet.
I also tried delicately with pliers but this already damages the black paint … so I tried once but not a second for fear of damaging it too much.
Use wood, hard-rubber, or some other hard but not scratchy buffer material to grab the head of the Q8 in a vise along the “flats”, and snug it down until it won’t spin.
Take a longer piece of wood (like a ruler, only sturdier) and lay it in the bezel’s “dents”. Use that as a lever to spin the bezel right off while pressing down and turning.
