Bobbin and Toroidal style inductors. Pros, Cons?

We have yet to examine such a dynamic in the circuits courses I’ve taken so far, but I’m interested in understanding how it pertains to the drivers that go in our lights.

What are some practical considerations EEs make when choosing one or the other, and what are the benefits of one style inductor over the other in various applications? Given identical Henry ratings, will one style handle faster switching with lower core loss, or without becoming saturated?

Thanks!

3A driver with bobbin-style at I-O.
3.5A driver with toroid, also at I-O.
Boost driver with bobbin inductor at I-S.
Boost driver with toroid inductor at SB.

Im guessing, but I think the toroidal type would be better for high current designs as more of the windings are exposed to the air for heat dissipation.

What is the function of the Toroid in drivers like this.
