Bogus drives on Amazon

Louis Rossmann has video.
I have had no problems with SSDs from Amazon.
Part of the video deals with external spinners so it’s dated.
I buy from BH if I want to be sure of a genuine product.

I haven’t had any issues yet where Amazon is the seller. The issue is you have to watch out because the default seller isn’t always Amazon and it is easy to miss.

I got a light that The Big Clive played with, a voice-activated usb-powered light, and ordered one that was FBA.

Wellp, it came in a sealed bag, supposedly new, but was a dud. Plug it in, and all it does is flicker/blink erratically. On closer inspection, it was pretty clearly used, what looked like light-pink nail-polish smeared on sections, a scuffed finish, etc.

I put in for a return, only to find out that they’d nick me for 8bux to return a light that was selling for 5-6bux! I pist and moaned to an actual hyu-mon rep (small miracle that I was even able to find the link to do so). I grexed that amazon has gone so far downhill that I rather order from Walmart when I can, because returns are a brick’n’mortar store away, and that their a-to-z guarantee today only goes to about k or l.

That got someone’s attention, because it was then escalated to someone else who just refunded me without having to return it.

So clearly, they took a returned item, didn’t bother to check it, and just bagged and resealed it for sale as a new item. So even though it was sold by Mars-something, it’s fulfilled by amazon, including returns.

What is BH and FBA?

Pretty sure that BH is B&H Photo in New York.

Hmm. I wonder if these 64TB flash drives for $.99 are legit.
For $.99, I’m almost tempted to just see what they really are. Normally, I wouldn’t support scammers, but at that price, they can’t be a very profitable grift.

thanks for bringing back good, old memories.
Bogus Drive was a friend’s nick-name way back
before computers were common. of course,
it was shortened to “BD” and pronounced:
BEEdee (said real fast).

Kinda like that creepy little robot on “Buck Rogers” that always started each sentence with “beedeebeedeebeedeebeedeebeedeebeedee…”.

Hated that thing… :skull_and_crossbones::skull_and_crossbones::skull_and_crossbones:

Yep, BH photo

Been around pre WWW.
Never had a problem with them.

As much as I hate to say it, buyer beware.

If I saw a 1TB Samsung or Crucial SSD selling for $12 and the seller was some unknown company, I would be an idiot for buying it.

To me they fall in the same category as 9900 milliamp 18650 batteries and 100,000 to 2 million lumens single LED flashlights for under $30 or so. Total vaporware and yet they accumulate multiple 5 star reviews from those with zero knowledge of what they have bought.
