Boker Plus Nano 42
The Boker Plus Nano 42, the 42 in the name refers § 42 WaffG (German weapon law) that deals with restriction on knife types much like section 139 of U.K. law. The Nano 42 is a non locking version of the framelock Nano.
It is a collaboration between Böker and Curtiss Knives small, non-locking, non-threatening legal carry in the U.K. and excellent fit/finish.
I bought this a few weeks ago, Heinnie Haynes have a cut price for the black scaled one, £23.95 ($35) instead of the £40.95 ($60) for the orange or green, I’ve been wanting one for ages so this was an ideal chance to grab one.
For those of you in the U.S.A BladeHQ have them at a reasonable price, both the Nano and the Nano 42.
The tang of the knife is extended so that the lock doesn’t engage, The détente is strong enough to keep the blade closed. The pocket clip with the Curtiss crosshairs logo is reversible for tip up or tip down carry.
There is a “half stop” at around 45° from the open position, the détente keeping the blade open on mine was very strong, I’ve adjusted is by gently bending the framelock outwards a bit at a time until it felt right for me - the blade could only be closed easily by moving the framelock - not ideal if stopped by the police and having to prove it was non-locking.
There is a finger choil cut into the blade tang that does a good job of ensuring your fingers stay safe - there is also a sharpening choil machined into the blade, something that’s missing on a lot of knives, that and the lack of thumbstuds should make sharpening the blade easier.
Weight 83g - 2.7oz
Blade length 48mm - 1⅞”
Blade thickness 3mm - ⅛”
Blade material - 440C
Scale material - Black FRN
Overall length 121mm - 4¾”
Hollow grind stonewashed on polished blade and swedge. There is a decent sized thumb ramp with jimping, the deep blade shape is also well suited to a pinch grip using your thumb on the opening slot with your fingers pressing the handle of the knife into the meat of your thumb for more delicate work.
FRN scales with full inset steel liner on scale side.
Feels like a very strong knife, no play and blade centred, feels good in the hand, it looks like it would be uncomfortable but it fits my large hands very well.
It’s my new EDC, for a while anyway.
The Boker Plus range is made in China and Taiwan.
