Bonneville Speed Week

For those who like to either go as fast as they can, or see the vehicles others have go as fast as they can Bonneville Salt Flats is a “mecca” of sorts. In 2022, Bonneville speed week is Aug 6 - 12. Lake Bonneville needs to be a dry lake for this to happen. Last night it rained a 1/2” or so. Not so dry today.

how long until it it dry enough?

I've had man fantasies of one day taking a car to the flats and seeing how fast I could go. If you haven't seen it I recommend The World's Fastest Indian to everyone.

They hope to start the racing Monday. I am not that optimistic unless we get a very hot, sunny day tomorrow with winds to assist in the drying. Now it is about the slipperiest surface you will ever find.

Speedweek canceled. Very wet. Many in the camping area had to be towed out

Everything is going to need a serious cleaning after the rain out on the salt flats.

Having been out there during the off times it is a very unusual place to be.

dang

all that mud!

hope no one’s flashlights got sullied

Nobody brought a squeegee ?

SpeedWeek looks like fun, and it’s too bad it was cancelled.

But, mostly, more water in the Great Salt Lake is good for the value of my property, so I’m glad it rained.

your property values go up and down every time it rains or doesn;t?

Water levels there have been falling the same as many of the western US reservoirs. Low water levels have many downsides.

OMG that green & white estate, is that a Volvo 121

That make my old heart skip a beat cuz a 1967 Volvo 121 was my first car, so have a sweet spot with me.

This year only the unlimited nitro canoe class will be run.

My first car was a 1964 121 4 door sedan. My second car a ’68 122S, third a ’68 123 GT. I loved them so much I have a fourth that I got in the 90’s; another 123 GT with mods. Big following around the world. That series was called the Amazon everywhere but Canada and the US.

Mine was a B18, got a B20 for it, took the engine to work ( Danish railroads ) and gave it the full treatment, shaving a little here and there, honed the cylinders grind the crankshaft and polished and balanced a lot of things that probably dident need that.
But i never got the engine put back together and put in the car as a drunk rammed me so hard the trunk / car was 3 foot shorter and the gas tank almost dragged on the asphalt.
So after some years of me not driving a car of my own the engine / parts was thrown in the scrap bin at the recycling station.

Buying a “new” one / nicely restored Amazon today, well that is the price of a new smaller car, and only substantial + would be it would be a veteran and so less costly to own, and with the mileage on a Amazon it could otherwise get expensive, ignoring the hefty gas prices in Denmark.
