Box of Lights Pass around (Keep a few for yourself)

EDIT: If everyone in the game could post in the thread on the day you receive the box and the day you ship to the next person it would really help me keep track of things. Also don’t forget to post a picture of what you take out… Thanks everyone!

Hi BLF friends,

All participants must be in the Continental USA. You must have been a BLF member with an account at least 6 months old and in good standing. To join the game comment in the thread “Count me in for the Game”.

The game works like this. I will ship a box full of lights to the first participant. That person will take a light or lights (details below) out, and then ship the remaining lights to the next person. You can add lights to the box if you want to but it is not required. The only cost to play the game is the shipping expense you will incur sending the box of remaining lights to the next person (in the Continental USA, with tracking).

I will ship a large box containing three smaller boxes.

Box #1: PREMUIM LIGHTS
-The lights in this box have a value of at least $150
-If you take a light from this box you get only one light. Do not take anything from box #2

Box #2: MIDRANGE LIGHTS
-The lights in this box have a value of $25-$100
-If you take from this box you can have multiple lights. Probly 2-4 lights for a combined value of up to $175 total. If you take from box #2 do NOT take anything from box #1.

Box #3: BONUS LIGHTS
-Regardless of which box #1 or #2 you chose to take from, you can also have lights from this box. You can still take a couple from this box, plus there is a small bag of miscellaneous parts you can take what you want from (things like head straps, lanyards or battery chargers).

Box #1 Examples:
-Left is a Lumintop Ant Man LEP TI. Retail $189 This one still has the box and is in mint condition
Right Nealsgadgets LEP. Retail $165 These are the cheapest of the four premium lights I put in box #1

Box #2 Examples:
There are more lights in box 2 than this, but this is a good sampling of what type of lights you can expect in there.

.

Box #3 Examples:
I forgot to take a picture, but this box is mostly full of Lumencaft FL1s and some 800 lumen LED upgrades for Maglite. The FL1s are new in box with battery. The dropins are either slightly imperfect or they have an LED in them that no longer matches our current offering.

To recap: You can choose a single flashlight from Box #1, or 2-3 flashlights from box #2, and still take extra lights from Box #3.

If you want to play
-Comment in the thread “Count me in for the game”. You will be added to the list. The box will be shipped to the first person who comments. Then that person will ship the remaining lights to the next person on the list (at his or her own expense).

FAQ:
1. Can I take lights out of the boxes and play with them before choosing a light?
YES, feel free to try them out, just make sure you don’t drain the batteries too much, and be sure to repack them as perfectly as possible.

2. How much will it cost me to ship to the next person?
I would be prepared for $25-$50 dollars depending on how far down the list you are. The box I’m shipping to the first person contains some large heavy lights, so the box weighs 32lb. I expect it to decrease rapidly after the first couple people take lights out, but it could also go up if they add lights. If you don’t feel like risking that kind of money is “fun” you shouldn’t play. However I’ve done everything I can to make sure no one gets “shorted”.

3. Who do I sent my shipping info to?
Only to the person ahead of you in line. Send it to them via Private Message here on BLF. Do not send me your info, and do not post it in the thread.

3. How long can I keep the box before I re-ship it?
Try to keep the turn around quick 2-3 days.

5. What kind of shipping should I use?
Something WITH Tracking. USPS, UPS or Fedex are all fine. However you should check with the person you are shipping to and make sure they can receive packages from your preferred shipper.

3. What happens when the box starts getting low on flashlights?
When the box gets below a retail value of $200 bucks or so the last person with it will just keep what remains. If you get the box and you think its getting to that point PM me and we can look over it.

6. Should I tell people what’s in the box?
No. Only post a picture of what YOU took OUT of the box.

7. Should I tell people what I added to the box (if I choose to add something)?
That is up to you. If you would like say what YOU added to the box, don’t be shy.

25 Thanks

Clever idea! Count me in for the game.

3 Thanks

This is an awesome idea!

Count me in for the game!

Edit to add what I got from the box:

I couldn’t pass up the Lumintop BLF GT94!
This is now the brightest flashlight I own, 20,000 Lumens!!!
I had never owned a SBT 90.2 and now I own 4!

I also snagged a Headband and a deep carry clip:

I love this idea!

Count me in for the game.

Edit to add: Lights I got from the box

Count me in for the Game!

Editing to add: I got The Big Box O’ Lights, spent some quality time going through some items in the box, and I added 3 lights to box #2, and 1 light to box #3, so there are a few more options to choose from. Box #1 is close to gone, but the other boxes still have some really great options that I am SO glad I got to see, hold, and test.

I feel like playing around with different lights from a range of manufacturers I normally wouldn’t have a chance to test was the biggest benefit of this experiment for me. I’ve been on the fence on buying an LEP, and now I’ve added one to my collection and can’t wait to start shopping for more. My full haul pic is below. Thanks again for the opportunity!

2 Thanks

Seems like i need to plan moving to US, Not fair game :smiling_face_with_tear:

This is kinda like a pay it forward type of thing. Good idea.
So VOB, what do you get out of this? I mean you send all this out never expecting it to return?

2 Thanks

Count me out for the game. Too much in shipping. Crazy expensive outside the l48. Makes no sense. Awesome idea for a GAW though! Good luck and enjoy to those who can play

I have a Weltool that I’d be willing to drop in.

2 Thanks

I’m not the OP but I just priced a 32lb box from me(TN):
Missouri = $32
Alaska = $207
Hawaii = $179

This looks quite intriguing!
I think Bort would be interested in this, but he’s in Canada, so that won’t work for him.
I hope that this pass around goes well for everyone that participates.
(I’m not in this one.)

3 Thanks

I’m gonna pass on this one. Several years ago you sent me two big boxes of Crumbs you called it. I’ll let others enjoy this one. Kool Idea Though

2 Thanks

I’m in! Great and unusual idea!

1 Thank

O0ps, I forgot to say, Count me in for the Game.

1 Thank

I’ve already been given so much… I’ve always thought about doing something like this, but never really had the means to do it in a substantial way. I decided it was time. Plus I do get something. I can truly say it is my absolute JOY to have this opportunity. I think about how the person receiving an item like this is going to feel and I get excited, because I know exactly what its like. Also being totally realistic I realize there is an element of a “promotion” here which is in effect me also getting something. I love this hobby, and all of the people in it. Me sending out this box does not begin to compensate this community for what I have already received!

12 Thanks

Looks awesome and fun Matt, but I’m doing some traveling and will watch from the sidelines. Enjoy all!

2 Thanks

Count me in for the game. I have some lights I could definitely pass on when it reaches me.

Edit: added a picture of the nealsgadget LEP I got from the box (more pictures to come):

2 Thanks

Nifty idea!
I’ve never seen a passaround box that didn’t require putting something IN, generally by equal value. Glad to see its allowed… that was always the most fun; passing stuff onward. We had one of these making the rounds of a endless rotating list for several years on an EDC forum I used to frequent. Got a lot of nice lights from that box actually!

Looks like yall are gonna have some fun here!

FYI, in case its ever considered to go outside CONUS;

USPS Flat rate boxes go a lot cheaper, up to 70 pounds.

BUT it has to fit in their box, that would be the kicker there. Youd be amazed what can get crammed into those boxes, and how a durable 70# cardboard box can be lol. My post office thinks I’m nuts… between anvils, gun powder, and literal boxxes of lead bars… cant really blame them

(*I’m in Alaska. If there is a way to get things here, and cheaply, but also reliably, I know it. *

*Whatever you do, don’t get a quote for that 32 pounds from UPS 2nd day air, or overnight you’ll have a heart attack. (both of which are impossible BTW, 3 days is the fastest that is physically possible, AND, ALL mail comes into AK by air anyway! ) Most online retailers require UPS 2nd day to AK. I’ve been quoted $200 for $50 in goods that fit in the palm of your hand. *

*In order of low cost, AND reliability; USPS, FedEx, UPS. We have a DHL depot too, but once its there USPS delivers it locally, I only had it once, about as costly as FedEx. *

again, I’m not trying to lobby to get the other states included(I could not participate for other reasons anyway) ; just giving info, in case someone wants to consider it in the future. )

4 Thanks

Not in because geography, but this is an amazing idea and I’ll be watching the thread with interest.
