Building from scratch

Here’s my next project built around 32mm 3xXH-P 50.3 5000K 9050 led engine with Cute 3 SS optics and Convoy L6 driver.

Nifty Fifty Headlight.

It’s gonna be massive and it’s gonna be brutal (well it would be if I had a better driver option). Designed and machined by me. Some milling is still missing but the major part is done.

What’s missing is a mount for the light and the battery pack both attached on a headband. The battery pack will be built around 2S 21700 EVE 58E and 2A usbc balancing charger and will also include a mechanical switch and a battery indicator. Both will be printed on a 3D resin printer

So much for now, more to come when I get the milling done and start some assembling

That’s awesome. I can’t wait to see it!

Got everything test fitted and everything fits perfectly

AR coated glass and o-rings are from C8 so there’s always spares available.

3 Thanks

Also got this today

Now I can try it out reflowing some FFL909

That is looking great! Nice work.
It would also make a nice bicycle light.

With about 50W should be a blast on a bike

But I got something else planned for biles, with road legal lens. Got Ledil Filippa lenses on the way

Will build something around this. Although the triple fifty would be great for off road biking or putting them drivers with high beams in their place

That looks cool. Would be nice if it could take 5050 or 7070 emitters.

1 Thank

I’ll definitely try to squeeze a 5050 in there just for $%^&* and giggles, if the opening is big enough or won’t take too much effort to open it up to 7070 I’ll do that too but I’m guessing the beam pattern will be too far compromised.

Might also fit the M21H . That would save a lot of work.

Please give link and model of hotplate?

How long does it take to become too hot to hold? I build a light with 6 xhp50, it has a lot more aluminum under the mcpcbs, a lot more surface area, but its active cooling kicks in after like 2-3 min on full power. I used 55C thermal switch within few inches of each mcpcb, I also used 2x 35mm triple stars, and same cute optics.

You’ll have to wait for the answer as there’s some machining due on the body first.

Awesome build so far, looking forward to updates, particularly the body and electrical connections- I’ve a spare body tube and tail cap for my Emisar DW4 I have (long term) plans on turning into a remote-battery headlamp, so will be interested to see how you connect up yours.

2 Thanks

I’ll most likely hard wire everything using rubber strain reliefs although I had a 4 pin M8 connector planned at first.
