I’m sure most of you are familiar with the head straps that allow the attachment of a flashlight to your mellon, thus creating a headlamp.
But does anyone have personal experience with the clip of the Streamlight MicroStream which allows it to be attached to ball cap. Also, are there other flashlights out there that allow this?
So, ya, it just dawned on me that my E2d can be deployed that way. Sometimes I’m a little slow; what can I say. It does seem like it will over bend the E2d’s clip, thus making it far less secure as a pocket clip, but it is doable.
Anyway, I’d still be interested it what y’all think about “head lamping” this way.
Many do, depends on the size and weight of the light and the direction of the clip. I'm not much of a hat guy, but 4-5 of my smaller lights would work great on a ball cap. The biggest one that will work comfortably is the S-mini. AA size lights work the best of the ones I have.
I prefer clips that allow lens down carry, This, of course, precludes making the light into a headlamp. This is why I thought the clip on the MicroStream was so intriguing. That said, because of the way I typically carry, I favor lights without any clip whatsoever. So much for being able to improvise a headlamp in an pinch.
I guess I will have to get the MicroStream and carry it as backup. LOL.
I don't really like clips or lanyards, so I have a bag full of them. I have no idea which goes with what, so I ended up trying several clips on many different lights. I discovered I like the kind that go between parts in the threads, sorta like the Solarforce clip. The kind that pinch over the external body don't seem as secure.
@ jack: the new style Balder SE-1 is probably the perfect cap light. Maybe they reversed the clip location for a reason? Balder folks seem pretty design savvy, version 3 should be designed so you can point the clip either way.
I’ve used a head strap for 12 years or so (should probably wash/replace it) it currently carries a c8 q5. But the only hat I wear is a jungle hat with a floppy brim…. Not seeing a flash light hanging off it being useful.
