Hi BLF I was wondering is it possible to run three XM-Ls in parallel from a single nanjg 105C driver? I am aware of the multiple board master/slave option but I want to keep things simple, if possible.
Is the humble nanjg able to take it? I will be planning to run each LED no higher than 2 amps.
Any thoughts or others experience would be appreciated!
To get 2A to each led you would need to stack another 380mA bin 7135 onto each of the chips already on the board. It’s not a problem for the board unless your input voltage is too high. The 105C is already undersized for dissipating much in the way of heat from excess voltage for just 8 chips. The master/slave mod is easier to solder and a bit less stress on the chips both in assembly and in use but stack away if that’s your cup of tea.
Ahhh, so I would basically need to use a 6 amp nanjg driver, not a 2 amp one. I didnt consider that parallel LEDs shared the current. Thanks for that info already, rufusbduck!
I guess I could strip the MCU etc from a second Qlite board and join it in parallel to the main Qlite driver, for a total of around 6 amps? That would give me the possibilty of heatsinking both boards better and less soldering errors, compared to stacking chips on a single board…
Using another board for the other 3Amps would be ideal if you plan to drive them in parallel. But still a hint, it you can feed them in series you can use a single NANJ 105C to feed one emitter and add others in series to this.
In series you would need series batteries and some way to protect the mcu. It can and has been done if you want to go that route. You don’t need to strip the mcu chip from the board unless you want to. Just clip the power, gnd, and Vdd pins to isolate it from the chips and prevent it from drawing power. Or you can remove it to the parts bin to replace the next mcu you happen to fry trying the series mod mentioned above.
