You are the one responsible for me joining.
After lurking for well over a year not knowing WTF these guys are talking about in terms on drivers, LED copper stars, tints etc. it was always the Daily Joke Thread and the weird poems that brought me back.
After lurking for a while with the aid of pictures and searching web sites of what does this mean, I relented and joined.
Then the real fun started, slow at first, then, just like drugs…full on feed me for the latest greatest, Double up for Jesus on good deals.
Wallet draining obsession.
And here we are.
Peace Out.
Ahh… Time has passed. I joined Jul 2, 2011 but I have no idea of my user “ID” number.
I remember I updated a thread at one point which had the total registered user count at different years and dates. Would probably be very hard to find.
ANYWAY what I think about Forums overall is… (Well, even I have recently not been here much BUT I have been on a couple forums all-these-years.)
… you all know where social meadia platforms are going these days? Endless scrolling, huge amount of artificial users, huge amount of artificial content, more and more sponsored stuff force-fed and even more ads.
I have a feeling Forums could have a second chance soon
Thanks Boaz for this thread!
I also remember many nicknames (for some reasons) from this place even after years.
This really was a BIG thing for me too, nowadays I still use lights A lot at work but I have pretty much stopped collecting, believe it or not
Back in “the day” far fewer options were available from stock; it was unusual for warm or neutral white emitter to even be an option- eagletac had different CCTs listed in their catalogue, 4Sevens did neutral CCTs, too (I think).
My Fenix TK20 (2008ish) is an early example of a neutral/warm stock light, iirc it’s an XRE-Q5 and seems to be around 4000K.
I’d also add that it’s only “fairly” recently (my memory suggests around the advent of the Emisar D4 which arrived 2017) that manufacturers have been more regularly pushing the output limits of LEDs - thus, if you wanted a “barn burner” you had to get a BLF A6 (released c.2014) or mod something as direct drive.
I’d also be interested to see what my member number is… I started on the other forum because I thought all the users here were crazy with their modding and I had no skills to achieve 1/10th of what they were doing… Still don’t, but I now know enough to appreciate the mods properly (and I’m sure the other place is still circle jerking over best lights for law enforcement).
I also remember the old days with pride. Not sure what member number i am but i’m sure its not a very low number.
I do miss some of the old members, @atbglenn, @Foy@Match , @Dchomak, @Racoon City…
Muto, I remember I bought my first real flashlights from you many moons ago (still have them) when I was broke. That got me deep down the rabbit hole for sure in modding and figuring out how these things work.
There once was a young girl Miranda
who had an exceptionally large veranda.
Men would come and they’d go
just to see the big show
When she wrestled a guy named pinkpanda
Yes, the user ID is a bit more hidden in Discourse, but I found a way to see it at least. Just add .json after your username in the URL of your profile page. For example:
(BTW the JSON layout formatting is much better in Firefox than in Chrome/Chromium.)
In most (probably all) cases the Discourse UID will be smaller than the Drupal one, because I only migrated active non-banned accounts from Drupal into Discourse.
