Someone asked what charger to use for the battery that arrived inside the Reylight Pineapple Mini flashlight. I received a 10440 lithium-ion battery inside my new Reylight Pineapple Mini flashlight. I used my Nitecore UM2 charger. It was fiddly. The battery had to be raised about 0.5 to 1.0 cm before the charger could detect the battery. I followed the Nitecore UM2 manufacturer’s instructions which told me how to set the Charging Current. The charging current needs to be set manually when charging a 10440 cell. I started with a long press on the C button. The default charging current started at 500mA (0.5A). Then each time I pressed the V button, the current increased by 100mA. The charging current went from 500 to 600 to 700 to 800 to 900 to 1000 to 100. I finally set the charging current to 100mA. Then I gave a long press on the C button.
(In the past, I used my Xtar XP1 to charge 10440 cells, with the charging current set to 0.25A).
Many manufacturers claim that their chargers are suitable for charging 10440 cells, but unfortunately those chargers often supply charging currents that are too high for a 10440 cell. For example, a charging current of 500mA is too high for a 10440 cell.
I use a SkyRC MC3000 to charge my 10440 cells (and nearly all others) and for 10440 cells I use 200 or 300mA. Nearly always when I insert a 10440 cell in to the charger it recognises it right up but occasionally a slight jiggle is needed. This charger will also do AAAA cells but with them much more jiggling is usually needed.
Thank you. I vaguely remember shining flashlights on the wall, and measuring the diameter of the beams, possibly 12 years ago.
At the Reylight group on Facebook, people recently recommended charging currents of 0.5A for 10440 cells. I wondered how they had been misled.
When I charge my Li-ion Ampsplus 10440 flat-top 330mAh blue battery with my Nitecore UM2 charger, I place a disc magnet (diameter 5mm) on the negative pole of the battery. The magnet creates electrical contact between the battery and the metal slider.
I charge my flat top 10440 in Liitokala Lii600 with 250mamps current.
It wouldn’t have good contact if I don’t raise a few milimeters a plus pole side of battery.
