There are alot of factors, one of the biggest one is our king is closing down lead manufacturing plants. But there is alot of other factors not worth going into. But USA is not running out of ammo, it is a supply and demand going on right now. I have 6 main rounds that I use and have stocked up for years of shooting for myself but I am now stocking up for my kids.
That was actually false…ammo manufacturers already came out and said they use recycled lead and other avenues for lead
With that said…outsourcing…yay (ever wonder why America makes only a FRACTION of what it used to…look no further than the guys tightening the noose on those that produce…notice my comment was non-denominational)
Buy it cheap, stack it deep (if you can find it)

EDIT: I come here to escape all the crap going on in the world and real life. Here I can reach across to people all over the world of different nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, beliefs, etc . We ignore our differences for a bit and share a passion. It’s a special place this BLF. Please don’t be dragging that smell in here.
AGREED!
Politics and Religion are the biggest hot issues…let’s all come together and enjoy providing light (and LOTS OF IT) in a darkening world.

The ammo guys have also said that they have been operating around the clock for years, they just can’t keep up with the bulk buying.
Things are already improving, and will be stabilizing in time.
“Hornady’s response is simple: “We’ve been steadily growing our production for a long time, especially the last five years. We’ve added presses, lathes, CNC equipment, people and space. Many popular items are produced 24 hours a day. Several hundred Hornady employees work overtime every week to produce as much as safely possible. If there is any question about that—please take a tour of the factory. You’ll be amazed at what you see.”
As Hornady’s Neal Emery told me recently, “We are producing as much as we can, much more than last year, which was a lot more than the year before, etc. No one wants to ship more during this time than we do.”
Since Obama took office, there have been 65 million NICS checks done. Even if only two-thirds of those resulted in guns bought, that equates to 40 million new guns in the hands of consumers. All those new guns need to be fed, in addition to all the others still in the hands of consumers.“

Hornady’s official response at their site;
“Here are some of rumors we’ve heard, and questions we’ve received:
Have you stopped production, or has the government forced you to stop?
Not at all.
Did you stop selling bullets so you could only make loaded ammunition?
Absolutely not.
Since we can’t find your product you must be selling it all to the government.
Nope, less than 5% of our sales are to government entities.
Why can’t you make more? Ramp up production? Turn on all the machines?

I find ammo all the time here….living in a smaller town between two big cities (hint: suppliers) keeps the walmart and the academy here well stocked. There’s also a cabela’s about 15 mins north of me.
I can get in my car now and buy .45, 9mm, .223/556, or 22’s in a wide variety of brands….why don’t I though? Price. I ain’t paying no 40cents per .223! that’s 12 bucks a mag!! I have my SHTF stockpile already, and I’ll pick up the crappy steel-cased stuff when I need an excuse to clean my ar15.
