China Flashlight (W5201-1) driver and LED swap

Grüetzi!

Some time ago I received this light: Wiederauf ladbare taktische Taschenlampe 19led 3200lm edc Taschenlampe 5 Beleuchtungs modi Outdoor Camping Angeln Jagd super helle Taschenlampe - AliExpress 39 as presented here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/i-bought-a-bunch-of-cheap-flashlights-from-aliexpress-thoughts

Because one of my lab power supplies seems to have a Problem with LED drivers (shoots from 4 to 9V sometimes when the driver starts), I killed the driver in it.
Not too upsetting since I wanted to change the driver anyway.

The driver that I wanted to use is this one: driver for S21E - Convoy flashlight because of Anduril and 8.5A
Since the light happens to have quite a void underneath 50% of the LED-Board, I had to change that, too, of course.
Also I wanted to change the LEDs to some that are a little bit warmer since I like 5000-5700K the most.

I haven’t made too many pictures, but here are some:

Thank god I did buy a lathe 8 years ago. I don’t use it much, more like twice a year, but when you need one, you need one.

Make room for the cables

That’ll do it

First, the old LEDs have to go (as you can see, I do change quite a lot of LEDs, mostly 2835)

And the new ones soldered up

The abomination that I had to fabricobble from the two drivers so that the original switch and charging circuit still work, but the driver part is done by the Convoy one. Barely fits, I had to cut the driver in some areas with my dremel-knock-off

But in the end, I made it fit. SInce the LED board has two poles each, I decided to utilize them, even though they are quite close to each other

Done!

It came out quite nicely. To be honest, way nicer than I thought, and the process itself was more straight forward than I anticipated. Once I started with the driver modification, it all went quite smoothly.
This now is a pure flooder, but it lights up a forest 60m (around 600 hamburgers) away quite nicely.
According to my Opple Lightmaster 3 it has now 4700K with a CRI of 67 but it looks actually quite nice.

I am very happy how this turned out. Now it’s a fully usable light. Only the charging LEDs don’t work, but I won’t open it up and look why. It stays closed until the end of time

Fabricobble. What a fitting word. Great work. I’d love to see some beam shots.

Well, I have one, but my phone used the night mode, so it’s way too bright. I brought the brightness down, but I think it’s still too bright.
