Ok, I see now. The bigger boards I mentioned seeing is COB but not the one shown.
The COB aspheric idea has been rattling around in my brain more and more. It’s frustrating that there is not a nice option available in somewhere between 3 and 12 volts.
Why would you want this?
There are people who want a flooder with >45° Angle - like me.
I don’t like throwers that much - mostly it’s more important what’s happening in front f you and not what’s going on in 200m distance…
I would love a 30W COB Flashlight without a clear spot but a ton of spill - like the SK98 but with even more angle…

So are you two specifically looking for a zoomie? If all you want is a lot of spill a reflector setup is still going to put the most light out the front.
… and in either case, COB really isn’t bringing anything to the table that we don’t achieve some other way. Which is why we aren’t using COB.

This is called the Nebo Slyde . It’s a little 4xAAA light. My buddy had one on a hunting trip and it was great. Even had a magnetic tail! I wish there were more powerful versions, but it’s a great light in itself if you’re looking for a COB.
What is good about COB is that they CAN provide better lm per watt than power leds. Like 147lm per watt for SDW07F1C.
It would be great if someone could make a floodlight with this 80w 11800lm COB.

Well, the “only” problem is - how to get the high Voltage without loosing too much energy?
I mean, there IS a way to make 100W portable -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c—5c3Egv4E
But it’s neither handy nor waterproof - but it’s not hard to make. I think about making one of them with one of my 100W NW COBs
You can have 7 of 18650 in series (Hexagon with one inside with optimal 3x diameter) + a boost up driver like this one http://www.taskled.com/hboost.shtml or this one https://pcb-components.de/led-aufwaertswandler-boost-step-up/led-senser-xtreme-200-2050ma-6v-30v-detail.html.
Here one is made waterproof (not sure if i can link to other forums so find it by image):

Nice!
I forgot about the Hyperboost driver.
Well… I have a TR-J20, KingKongs and some 100W LEDs…
Maybe one of my next projects.
Cool, please share the results. Im looking into making a dive video light from 80w SeouldSemiconductors COB (most efficient on market now). You should note that driver efficiency rises with decrease of deltaV up to 97%, so you want to supply as much input voltage as possible (but below output voltage).
I just bought one and it is a fun little light to use around the house or outdoor.
It can stand, hang on an object or attached on something with its magnet, and it’s pretty bright for the price. It costs about $3.
