Anyone know an amber emitter suitable to swap into a C01R? (Or anyone interested in doing a mod for me, as my old hands have gotten shaky for small size work)
It was made for maximum durability, and hence it was potted. So, no luck replacing the LED easily (yes, can be done, did it with a Fenix E01, but it’s not funny). In addition, a socket (part and work) would have added to the cost.
New C01 will not have a potted driver, but I guess cost is still too much. But a really good idea to get people without soldering iron interested in hosts.
Din’t watch inner head of C01.
I would liked Led can be placed like incan. bulb.
Considering the small space using pliers instead solder.
There are host like that for 5 or 3mm Leds?
Hope there will be one day
I would be interested in seeing some photos of a C01R teardown, and to learn if 10mm fits, though I dont mind reflowing onto a stock board if necessary
I note this C01 thread is about 5mm LEDs. I welcome a more link to a more appropriate place to discuss the power LED version, such as C01R
I intended to offer 30 or so Yuji-C01 and a couple of warmer tints. Not sure it pays considering desoldering the LED first. But for sure, I’ll buy some for myself, and I’m especially happy the 670nm version makes it into production.
Sofirn said they are not making a C01 host, and that other led’s were a matter of swapping.
I just ordered a couple of C01’s with “standard” led, and will do the swapping myself.
So I unsubcribe from this thread. I would like to thank djozz for all the effort he put into it.
Since the new C01 is not potted, the relevance of a host version, although it would still be convenient, has become less: swapping the led can likely be done by prying the driver/led out, solder in a new led with a common solder iron, and pushing it all back in place.
Only thing: there was some confusion about wether a o-ring around the led is in place to waterproof the driver cavity, I hope that this is not true, at least the original prototypes of the C01 that I own do have that o-ring.
