Hi All,
I am looking for the best way to collimate light to a 5M square or circle at around 80 yards, with as little spill of light as possible. An off the shelf flashlight would be easier, but a custom build isn’t out of the question! It also has to be as light and small as possible.
Have any of you got experience in this sort of thing?
Thanks Guys ill take a look at your suggestions!!The flashlight will only be used for about 20secs at a time so power souldnt cause a problem, spill of the light would be my main problem,
Thanks djozz. You have just cost me $63.00 that I was not spending this morning before I opened up this thread. Hmmm. We need a djozz blocker preventing us opening threads he has posted in.
Except for those stupid holes in the bezel leaking light out the sides, this would be a good choice for Bugs. He’s trying to avoid any side light pollution for a specific reason.
Sipik SK98 might keep it that tight, not sure. There’s always the Jaxman Z1. It takes a 26650 cell and as such is a bit larger light, but it’s still quite small.
Edit: Z1 with SBT-70 at 100 yds, approx 16’ to 20’ wide…
An XP-L HI would be considerably tighter, as much lumens as the big Luminus at much less amperage. (it’d be square, of course)
Thanks dale, interesting,Iv found the flashlights that use (dont know the real name) but i call them a frog eye lens to focus the beam ,seem to loose some of the power of the light compared to ones that use a reflector to produce the beam, the old stage super trooper type beam would great but this things got to be small !! the acebeam K7 looks great but its quite big and has a lot of spilled light ,Thanks dale and all you guys for taking the time to reply.
Sorry about that Steve, all I did was copying the code from the Gearbest deals thread. I might save myself some money by blocking that dangerous thread
But the T25C is a nice light for sure, and as a host not as easy as the good old UF-T20 but still very moddable and the lens seems a bit better. Mine does 181kcd with a dedomed XP-G2 S4 2B.
Seriously djozz? A de-domed S2 0D in my Convoy L6 does 439Kcd… sure would have thought an aspheric (bugs? you listenin?) would throw further than even that large smooth reflector…
One of my Epileds 400nm emitters looked like that, with light concentrated near the bond wires. Another one had the light nicely spread out over the entire die surface. Epileds is still not on top of consistent quality.
Bugsy? I’m checking something for you… I have an X5 in aluminum that I modded with an AHorton aspheric, it’s fixed, not zoomable, I’m charging it up and will see what the lux is on it and how small the die patterned hot spot is. I know it’s larger than a lot of em because of the AHorton and the (I think) XM-L2 de-domed. Anyway, I’ll check it… it’s tiny and would be super easy to carry.
Edit: Not sure why I’ve got an XM-L2 U4 1C in this, but it’s only doing 55Kcd. Hot spot is pretty large. I can try popping an de-domed XP-G2 S2 0D in it and see what it does if you think it’d work for ya.
