The 5Ax XPL HI is also one of my favorites, although I’ve never seen a 5A4. I bet it is nice!
mattlward’s experience matches mine. Tint mixing is great way to dial in your favorite CCT and get below the BBL.
CollectEverything, you should consider the tint ramping version of the D4SV2. Ramping from 5A to 1A you could dial in the tint you like. You would still have the option of “full blast” with ~5000k and could play with the tint ramping to see how different tints look. Only possible downside is that it will be pretty far below BBL at ~5000k (a lot of people wouldn’t consider this a negative at all).
The Sofirn IF25 is another option for anyone wanting to play with tint mixing without doing there own mods or spending a lot. It has SST20 LEDs with 2x2700k + 2x6500k and tint ramping. I don’t really like either end of that spectrum with the SST-20, but anywhere in the middle looks great (at higher drives)! I’m really surprised that this light doesn’t get more discussion here on BLF. Since I’m not a big SST20 fan, I’m upgrading mine to LH351D LEDs. Just need to decide on tints.
I wasn’t comparing the E21A and 219b outputs to each other, but rather to all the other options. The LH351d, SST20, and XP-L Hi emitters are all higher output. I was saying earlier that for me the E21A fills the role that the 219b fills for others as a mix of high CRI and lowish output.
I don’t consider highly-pink to be a desirable trait in an emitter. I prefer closer to neutral.
Nice experiment. You didn’t even have to buy emitters.
I’m not a fan of the SST20. I just can’t get past the green bias at low current drive.
I wasn’t found of the SST20 4000k LEDs that came in my IF25A. Duv too high at low drive and just OK at higher drive. Since the IF25 LEDs were nice at mid tint ramp, I swapped them in to the IF25A. Now the IF25A looks good once the FET kicks in when ramping up the intensity. The IF25 now has shaved LH351D LEDs in 3500k and 5700k. I think I’ll swap the 3500k for 3000k to hopefully drop the duv a little more at mid tint ramp.
