Have you looked at the wires?
On my replacement pill one was cut inside so not noticeable with parts in place
I cut them shorter and now have the driver and led fitted in a C8 and happy with that.
Probably but the brass rings look like a better & neater solution to me should they be needed.
No not yet as I am still waiting on some parts to arrive from Jaxman for my Cometa”s 
& I am in no hurry.
