buy the maxabeam. when they say pics or it didnt happen, zoom in your camera on the sun... problem solved
He has no obligation to buy a camera just because other people want pictures.
The Hubble telescope cannot be compared to a camera used solely for taking beam shots. The Hubble telescope was sent into space in order to take pictures of our surrounding galaxy in order to further our scientific knowledge of the universe. Maybe it'll one day lead us to another planet, or help us find a way to mine asteroids.
Will a $300 camera do that? No. All it will do is satisfy a few people on a forum.
Your reading way too much into my post Slew. Just an example of what photos can do to make folks see the rest of the story.
I think since we are picking on my buddy jmpaul320 or at least a couple of us are guilty that this should remind us of jmpaul320’s feelings.

Why? Well that’s kinda like asking why climb a mountain, because it’s there and you can.
Why not? Well let’s see I’m cheap, my wife likes to call me frugal but only because for some odd reason she still likes me. So I can say that I wouldn’t buy one unless I thought there was a good chance I could get most of my money back out of it.
Solution? Don’t buy one unless you get it well below market value. Then you can play with it for a while and get most of your money back when and if you decide to sell it. Who knows if you get a good enough deal you might even break even or make a buck or two. Win win situation.
edit: plus that way you can just tell your missus that it’s an investment. 0:)

Hey, you can always buy it, then ship it and the DEFTX to me and I’ll BUY a nice camera to take pictures of the beamshots of them to celebrate, from the top of a few mountains! Of course I’d have to take a month or two to…um make the right shots with them of course.

You don’t need a top of the line camera to capture good beamshots. Any camera with manual aperture and shutter speed control would do. $200-$300 would get you one of those.
I have 2 G3 maxabeams but I really haven’t used them much . Fun just going from the somewhat crappy flood to throw just using the joystick. Programming the stobe rate and using a infared lens. Sometimes I just play around with both of them shooting 2 white lasers down the range onto the old Dupont tower near me. If anyone is in my area you could play with them if you wanted to .
I’m not sure what the argument is? Is there an other half involved?
