Convoy C8 KW CSLNM1.TG

I got my Convoy C8 KW CSLNM1.TG on Monday and I took it out last night. It had an incredible throw but a very narrow beam. It almost looks like it has two beams instead of one. After playing with it for a few minutes, I realized that it will work good up close and far away. We use the thrower flashlights to stop people from poaching deer and squirrels in our woods. This flashlight will do a great job of putting the light on the person, no matter where they are in the woods.

The one thing that I can’t seem to get right with all of my Convoy flashlights is the UI. I’m trying to get it into mode 5 but I just can’t get it. Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

I also got my Sofirn SC28 yesterday and I really like it.

It came with a 5000mAh 50A battery and I was wondering if a lower amp battery will work the same or does it need to be 50A? I’m still a little iffy on the Amp part of the battery and what it means.

Here’s a tip…turn the light on then keep quickly half pressing until the light no longer switches levels (don’t bother trying to count the number of presses). Let off the switch and the light will flash once then start flickering. Half press once and the light will start flashing the mode groups (1-12). When you get to 5 flashes do a full press (click) and the light turn off. You are now set to mode 5. Hope that helps.

  1. Turn Light On
  2. Tap/half press the button 20 times(if you accidentally do a full click you’ll need to start all over)
  3. After the light blinks once it will start blinking/strobing really fast, Tap/half press the button 1 time.
  4. The light will begin to blink indicating the group. If you want Group 5, wait until it finishes blinking 4 times and when it starts blinking again, turn the light off.

Thanks for the reply. I will give it a try and see what happens.

Ok, I am not good at this. I have been half pressing the button until my thumb started hurting and I couldn’t get any where near what you all were telling me. I’m going to let my thumb rest and try it again later.

I only got to where it would flash 5 times, rest and 5 more but then I would half press and the moonlight mode would come on.

Some people say if the Light requires/uses # amps the battery only needs to be # amps.

Right or wrong, I typically like to choose a battery that has twice the output that the light needs.

My reasoning is 3 part:

  1. Safety, if you are trying to pull more current from a battery than it’s capable of, you are stressing that battery. I don’t want a LiIon battery to vent in my hand.
  2. Voltage Sag
  3. The Life span of the battery is reduced more quickly when charging/discharging @ or near max.

Example: The C8+ with CSLNM1 comes standard with a 5A driver so I’d use a 10A or higher discharge battery with it.
That being said, if you aren’t planning to run the light @ 100% for long periods of time or often, a 5A rated battery would be adequate.

The SC28 has a single XHP50.2 LED, I believe.
It certainly doesn’t need 50A.
20A would probably be adequate.

Did you order the 12Group driver or th 4Mode driver?

12 group, does that make a difference to what I do?

Thanks that helps me a lot. It makes it easier to decide on what battery to use.

The 4Mode driver isn’t programmable.

Maybe this video will help.
Around the middle is where he shows how to change the group.

That does help.

I got it. Well I got the C8 KW CSLNM1.TG, now I have to do my M21A.

Thank you for all the help everyone.

I should mention that if the Light uses a DD(Direct Drive) FET driver you’ll want to do some research before putting in a battery that’s double the amps that it uses.

With a DD FET driver on Turbo you are basically connecting the LED directly to the Battery and are bypassing any regulation.
That being said the only things that are limiting the current on Turbo, is Hardware(LED(s), Springs, Wires, Battery, etc.)

So it’s possible that the manufacturer or modder didn’t take into account for the user to use a battery that has a much higher rating than they designed the light for.

I am saving everything you said to my phone, good stuff.

I feel really good right now. I was able to program both of my Convoy lights.

I think I was pressing fast enough, maybe. I just know that they are set in group 5. Yeah!

The M21A was my first build. I only added a driver and emitter then soldered everything in but I’m proud none the less. Sorry about tooting my own horn but my grandma told me that is fun to toot your own horn every now and then. Lol😜

I should add that I put an 20mm - 3V - 8A buck driver 12 group with SFT40 Convoy LED.

1 Thank

Which do you like better the C8+/W1 or the M21A/SFT40?

Well that’s a tough one because they both have a different beam profile but I will go with the C8 plus kw cslnm1.tg because it gives me a tighter beam at a longer distance. However it is a very close decision.

@INeedMoreLumens that video was really helpful. It showed me what to look for in regards to the light sequence. It also showed me that I was definitely not clicking fast enough lol.

Glad it helped!

I love Convoy lights, I guess that’s why I own like 20 of them and have built and Sold/Gifted even more.
