One of the first lights that I bought, before starting to learn about emitters, was a Convoy C8+ with an SST-40 in it. Is it straighforward to swap out the MCPCB for one with an SFT-40? I am quite proficient with soldering. I understand it’s a 20 mm MCPCB?
Yep, get some thermal paste and it’s all very easy. 20mm is correct.
I’d get the SFT42R instead of SFT40, unless you want 3000K 95CRI. Better performance and nicer beam.
TBH, my motivation was everyone going gaga over the 3000K. I wanted to check out the hype myself without buying another light. ![]()
Got it, the SFT40 3000K is a gorgeous emitter!
Unfortunately, I can’t simply buy an emitter from Simon without loads of other stuff adding itself to my cart… ![]()
The minimum for almost-free shipping is $8 I think. Get some other emitters to play around with, like SFT25R 5000K for a km of throw.
Don’t I fall into gasket/reflector traps then though? I was hoping to stick with emitters that are 100% compatible. (My L21B with SFT-40 5000K is throwy enough for me.)
Might as well get some LMP emitters while you’re at it ![]()
As @Kraids suggested the LMP W5050SQ5 is compatible with the SFT40. It’s available in many CCTs and very nice tints, at the expense of a slight performance reduction compared to SFT25R.
As I understand, the SFT-70 would also be a drop-in replacement?
Sft-70 is a 6V emitter so you would need to change the driver too.
Yes, but you’ll have company. Come on down and join us!
How’d it turn out?
Only just placed my order, but I thought I would prep the light in anticipation! Now to frantically keep refreshing a tracking link…
Emitter apa yang akhirnya anda pasang di c8+..???
It will be the SFT-40 3000K… when it arrives.
It seems you have everything you need, if your solder contains flux.
Yep. I’ve done a reasonable amount of soldering over the years. My Convoy order is in the UK now, so I hope to be able to show my results soon.
