Convoy C8 OP reflector

I modded a Convoy C8 with MT-G2, zener modded BLF X6 driver and extension tube. Very bright, nice tint. Unfortunately MT-G2s create some yellow artifacts in the spot, and I was told they will disappear with OP reflectors. Simon offers a OP reflector but the diameter of the LED hole is only 7 mm, too narrow for MT-G2. I know I could widen it, I did it with another light, but it’s difficult and I try to avoid this in the future.
Can anybody recommend another OP reflector which fits the Convoy C8 and the MT-G2?

How did you widen the hole that put you of doing it again?

Very carefully with a dremel and a cone shaped grindstone. Are there better ways?

I use a step drill and normally just turn it by hand as it just takes the hole size up in small increments.

Do you hold both parts - reflector and machine - in your hands? Do you drill from the outside or the inside of the reflector?
Won’t the silvering chip using this tool? I was afraid of this so I used the coned grindstone from the outside.

A step drill is good for enlarging an existing hole as it keeps the hole centered. This is great for those of us that don’t have a drill press. No one likes to damage their reflectors. I used to fuss around trying to be overly careful, but now I just place the reflector face down and drill (step bit). Then I blast the whole thing using a can of compressed air. I haven’t had any problems so far. I’ve been using those inexpensive step bits you find on eBay or FastTech etc. the ones that come in the wooden box. They seem to be very good. I’ve been using mine to drill holes through thick copper, which is a tough job, and they work like a charm.

Like Of says above.

Thanks for the help, I’ll try that next time.

Sorry for ‘bumping’ this topic, but i have a question concerning something similar and thought it might fit here quite well.

Today i have received a replacement reflector for my convoy c8, and the new reflector seems to have a larger hole for the LED, dimensions of both reflectors are exactly identical, but the old reflector exacly matched the gasket around the LED.
The new reflector hole is approx. 2 mm larger , so there is 1 mm evenly around the gasket.
It is being held in place by the head and lens, so no real problems exist, but my question is, does is have any impact on the output, or beam profile?
Is it common practice that those sizes differ, or should i contact CS?

Thanx in advance

It is really important to center the LED right

A cheap and quick method is to add a few little hot gun glue blobs on the outer diameter of the reflector base
Put a very thin oil film on the base of the reflector

Push the reflector centered on the LED star and let the hot gleu cool down

The oil makes it easy to remove the reflector as it doesn’t get glued to the host

On convoy my C8 XPL HI the gasket fitted the reflector well but was too big for the LED
