I keep debating slicing the dome, the last one I sliced I was not all that impressed but it was not that great of a host with which to test it.

Well, I posted lots of info bout it in the big Q8 thread - could piece-meal it all together into a stand-alone thread, but time is a problem as of late. It's only an early phase prototype but shows some good promise. I had to swap the proto's driver with our real PD68/DEL designed OSHPark driver.

You must unscrew the hidden smooth ring and to put on his place tactical one.

Took me a good 10-15min to figure that out when I got my L2 a few months ago!

Tangra and J-Dub74, thank you! That hidden ring is so well machined that I would have never known it screws off. It just goes to show you the quality and attention to detail of this product, it’s incredible.

:+1: Your post made me smile. You would not believe how many times I and others have had to explain that to L2 and L6 owners. Even I was fooled for a few minutes when I received the first tubes like this and I’m the one that asked him to make the simple ring to hide the threads. :person_facepalming: Upon first looking at it I thought “What the heck? Simon forgot to thread the end of the tube for the tactical ring!”. Then I looked closer and smiled with delight. :laughing: I see that Tangra posted the answer too while I was s-l-o-w-l-y typing my reply. LOL Thanks Tangra.

Well, to be honest, I didn’t want to look like an idiot posting that the ring size is too small, but dam it, I couldn’t figure it out because it was so well hidden LOL. :+1:

Is there any info when the short tube that you are working on will be available for purchase? I’d get a few right away as soon as they are ready.

This guy said something about that earlier today. He’s pretty reputable from what I know…

Update:
I have confirmation that both the new L2/L6 short tube and second batch of smooth reflectors are indeed in production now. They should be ready in a week or so. Keep in mind, this time of year is production madness in China which can lead to delays. I’ll drop another note in here and update the OP when they’re officially available.

Swapped in an MT-G2 on the L6. Magnificence! Needs more power though, but I’ll wait for the TA 30mm driver.

Speaking of which, I just got the first one built and working today.

Bone stock L6 3A (first batch) does ~6000 lumens at turn on falling to ~5500 @ 30 seconds (going from memory). Not bad at all. Not sure on amps yet, have not tested it.

It gets warm but handles the massive amount of heat surprisingly well.

It is a noticeable improvement in brightness but once you get into the 2500+ lumen range it takes a LOT more to look brighter (about 4x the lumens to look twice as bright). As such it visually looks about 50% brighter, still not a bad tradeoff. Plus thats what low modes are for lol.

Awesome! That goes for Muakka’s MT-G2 build and TA bringing your driver to the table. WAY cool!!!

Ramping was not my idea for sure, had no interest in it, but when there were multiple requests coming in, I had to take a shot at it. I did not think I’d like it, but once I started using it - it’s impressive. Only thing is I wish I could combine ramping and mode switching, specially with the triple channel driver because right now, you can’t tell where your ramping level is at - in the 1 7135 range, 7135 bank range, or FET range? Think’n of adding something sneaky to indicate what range you are in - could do it kind of sort of offline based on the last used level. Since it’s saved you can return to that level and know what channel you are running on. Hhhmmmm…

Ok I’m stupid - why not use the indicator LED? 1, 2, or 3 blinks, but how to easily activate it? Ohhh - automatically blink out the channel # (1, 2, or 3) when you stop ramping? do the blinks just once, maybe twice then stop. I got a function to blink out any 1 or 2 digit #: using it for batt voltage, firmware vers #, and now temperature in new NarsilTriple version.

Might work… Could be a config setting to enable/disable.

For cells, I’m solder blob’ing a whole bunch - VTC6 is the winner for max amps, solder blob’ed. The GA’s though are my preference mostly

Tom, buddy whatever you want to work into Narsil that could run in the L6 I want to see! Options for the side switch would be awesome. :+1: I didn’t think ramping would be as cool as it is either but I have one light (old Convoy L4) with TK’s old ramping firmware and when I show my collection to friends they keep gravitating back to the L4 because they love the ramping. If I remember correctly Narsil has that even more refined. I can’t wait to try out Narsil in an L6 and of course I’m on the list for a Q8 too. :laughing:

I agree completely. I love that the SMO reflectors are available for thrower builds but for daily use with the XHP70 I definitely prefer the OP reflector with buttery smooth throwish flood. :+1:
I want to see more L6 thrower builds but not with the XHP70 which is simply not meant to be a thrower. The only reason people refer to the L6 as a “thrower” which it really is not, is due to the massive amount of light pouring out of that quad die emitter combined with a well shaped reflector. That combination really hit a sweet-spot in my highly biased opinion. :student:

Don’t forget guys that there is a dedicated L2/L6 modding thread here when you get to the details on any new builds. Please share!

Yea for sure. I do not have the SMO reflector but with the OP reflector its classified as a thrower in my books i have seen it go 500 meters and it still offers usable light around you. That is what this light has over the Soda can style flashlights.

:sunglasses: :+1: I have a large number of purpose driven lights but when I’m going out into the yard at night it’s the L6 I reach for every time. Though to be fair I don’t have a Q8 yet and I’m certainly looking forward to it. Even if they did steal Convoy’s block style knurling.

I was shining my L6 at the shed below whilst on a mountain today and it lit up that shed big time. Knowing the area very well, that shed was about 400m away so 500m is not a stretch for it at all.

With the dictionary defining throw as the length a beam of light travels, not indicating the intensity or lack thereof at said distance, I reckon even a floody light is a thrower. Since the old standard was a spotlight that could throw 500 feet, looks like we’re breaking new ground!

Also, I find my tail switch spring really grinds into the back of the batteries. Is there another

option such as a wider spring or something else?

If your tail switch spring is grinding into your cells then your cells are probably too long. In the L6 it’s recommended not to use cells over 70mm. Can you tell us what cells you’re using?

As far as spare parts, contact Simon through his Aliexpress store. If he has the items in stock he will hook you up.

I just purchased 100 of the L6 springs a few weeks ago, so he has them if needed. Apparently he is not using these on the S2+ as well.

If your tail switch spring is grinding into your cells then your cells are probably too long. In the L6 it’s recommended not to use cells over 70mm. Can you tell us what cells you’re using? Using the correct Keeppowers from the link posted at the beginning of this thread from Banggood. It just seems that the springs are real pointy and scratch the backing of the keeppowers a little. It's probably normal maybe and nothing now that I look at it again.
