Convoy M21E Flashlight Review

Convoy M21E Flashlight Review

The Convoy M21E is a flashlight using a single Cree XHP70.2 emitter, and one 21700 cell. My copy is a 4000K, the light has USB-C charging!

Short Review

I have always loved the Convoy silver finish. I love this one too. USB-C charging works well, and I also really like the 4000K Cree XHP70.2 emitter. All in all, this is a great light!

All my Convoy reviews!

^ Measurement disclaimer: I am an amateur flashlight reviewer. I don’t have $10,000 or even $1,000 worth of testing equipment. I test output and such in PVC tubes!! Please consider claims within 10% of what I measure to be perfectly reasonable (accurate, even).

There's more at my site, including runtimes and all that other good stuff. Head over there if you're willing, and if the table above doesn't satisfy your need for data.

Nice review.

I like it.

Will probably get one.

Great review as always, thanks for taking the time! Looks like a great light for the price.

Thanks for the write up. I bought this for my wife to give me for my birthday

Nice looking light but UI is annoying. Hold for moonlight but then you can only click for off or dbl click for turbo. Turbo is memorised. Ramp and stepped speed is slow. I do think it would be a great gift for a muggle with the annoying UI and built in charging. Wouldn’t it be good if we could Anduril?

As for the lanyard, thanks for the tip. I just fixed six of my Convoy lights, some I had for 3 years. No wonder they were wobbly tail standing. Sometimes I worry about my attention to detail

1 Thank

Thanks for the review!

Just having a re-read of this review. A few questions:

  1. What is the spill beam angle? Is it wider than the 60 degree M21C/D?
  2. The high/40% mode lumens is only 33% of turbo lumens. That doesn’t seem right?

I have Thrunite T2 “Neutral White” (they don’t disclose exact temp) that uses Cree XHP 70.2 also. I love it because it is incredibly bright and floody, however I may not keep it because it has a horrible green tint. I want to try another XHP 70.2 light if the green monster is tamed somehow. If possible please post picture of beam shot. Is there too much green tint?

I would wait for M21E gt-fc40. Or, if you can, swap the T2 xhp70 for a gt-fc40. Xhp70 tends to have tint shift, so part of the beam is usually green or yellow.

Sorry OT :innocent: .

I just read up on GT-FC40 “GT-FC40 is quite unique in that it is a large format LED with high colour rending (high-CRI) at 95CRI.”
Wow - interesting. Large format so should be floody as well? It would be wonderful for my night photography (I’m a fairly hard-core shutterbug).

This one (M21E gt-fc40) is coming for sure? Do you know when?

The Thrunite T2 takes a lot of heat and effort to remove the bezel. But the FC40 does make a great mod in that light. Not too many 12 volt led lights out there

You might be better off with the Acebeam E70 CRI version which uses the GT-FC40 4500k for night photography. There is a link in my signature to my flashlight buying guide for light painting photographers that might be useful. The 2022 version is coming in a few weeks.

Nice review! This flashlight is so worth the money it’s a crime not to buy one. A well regulated 4000k 3000-1200lumen that don’t exceed 40degrees C. For us36. That is ridiculous!

It’s not as floody as xhp70. Way less bright too.
The driver for M21E gt-fc40 is under development. Check out Convoy thread.
Maybe M21F will be offered with this emitter too.

Zeroair, I have to ask, what’s the correct way for a lanyard to be installed?
