For me it seems both (at least bodies) are made at same factory. The only difference I see - the driver, Thorfire seem to have buck driver (looks like same as in BLF Eagle Eye X6), Convoy - amc7135… both I think are good. So if you like Convoy name - take Convoy, if not - take Thorfire
To be honest - I hate the L4.
It’s a nice light - but 2 switches?!
I want one seitch to turn it on and off and to change the modes - not 2.
The C8 in grey is just another league for me.
In general I prefer the driver in the Thorfire, but they seem to be less powerful than the 3A Qlites in the Convoys. I have only been able to get ~ 2.2A out of it. Perhaps they can be resistor modded, but I’m not sure.
Maybe you can do resistor mod on the Thorfire’s buck driver, but the maximum current that you can achieve with a single 18650 is still quite limited due to the limited input voltage that a single 18650 can provide to overcome the high resistance of the inductor. If you want to achieve high current for a single 18650 and a single LED setup the best way is to use a linear driver IMO, which could be the common Nanjg-105C or even better with some FET based linear drivers.
I got the Thorfire C8 with the 5/3 mode a while back off Amazon and it has a regular pill.
It is my understanding that when they went to the 4 mode with no strobes that the integrated shelf came into play.
That is not to say there are not 4 modes models with a screw out pill, anything is possible.
Real nice light for the money.
Have enough other lights with firefly, so no big deal.
It’s nice for the folks that can’t solder, flash their own drivers or where ordering a driver from RMM would be cost prohibitive because of shipping to be able to have moonlight mode in their flashlights.
