Does anyone own one of these, what are your opinions on it?
Also, i had a page on fastteach’s website that showed all of the convoy lights and i could filter by bin, but i can’t seem to find it anymore, i end up at pages that have many other lights that i have no interest in (not using the search on the top of the page)
I just received an S3 yesterday. It is the same host as the I-O EDC lights, and it seems very good in every respect. The GITD tailcap of the I-O version has been replaced by a black tailcap with a GITD ring under the lens, but they are otherwise identical. Fit and finish is very good, threads are good; smooth, clean and lubed. (My I-O EDC host has an XP-G2 emitter)
This one is the lowest powered version (1050 mA U2). The spacings don’t seem to be as advertised however - low is distinctly ‘low’, but ‘medium’ and ‘high’ are almost the same. It doesn’t matter to me, as this is a single purpose light and long runtimes at ‘low’ are what I was after.
This one is VERY floody…in my opinion, it would be fine to walk the dog or completely and evenly light a sidewalk - or in my case, as a ‘room’ light. In any case, I’d always have something with much more throw in another pocket.
It tail stands perfectly. I ran it at ‘low’ for a couple of hours, and barely detected any warmth. A couple of hours at ‘medium’ (indoors) made it moderately warm, but not at all hot.
Overall, I’m very satisfied, and I think the S3 is a real bargain, especially with their choice of tints and drivers.
While I was at it, I ordered a pair of unprotected Panasonic 18650B’s. They fit much more comfortably than the Efest protected 18650B’s, which are almost a crush fit.
60% medium and 100% high are probably too close together. So it's more like turbo, high, low. A 30% medium would probably make more sense.
Medium is 50% not 60
I don’t think this particular one is, although it may just be sample-to-sample variation. 525 mA vs 1050 mA on an XM-L emitter should be readily visible. Even in my darkened garage last night, it was hard to tell medium from high.
I bought two from intl-outdoor: an XPG-2 R5 2B and a XML-U2 1A.
I’ll try and get a review done soon, but I concur with the previous comments. They are very floody, in fact the XM-L is more floody than a Zebralight SC600 and about the same as a Zebralight H600.
They are fit and finish is excellent; I can’t find anything to complain about quality-wise.
The XP-G2 modes are 5% - 30% - 100%, as advertised.
The XM-L has the “new driver” mentioned on intl-outdoor’s web site: max current is 2.8A and the modes are 5% - 50% - 100%.
I don’t think the new driver is the right choice for this kind of light. It gets too hot, too quickly, and the mode spacing is wrong. I’d rather see 2.1A max with 1% - 10% - 100%.
Hey rivet, welcome, I like your mode spacing too 8) if only driver manufacturers would do this.
I tend to keep all my xm-l tube lights memory low, use medium and high is for that quick blast of light, most of the time, their used around the house so low is fine.

gords1001, I agree. For navigating around a dark house, I find 10 lumens to be about right. For routine, general flashlight tasks, 50-75 lumens works well. For showing off and checking out the property, it’s “give me all you got, Scotty.”

.... remember that brightness of light is non-linear visually to human eyes, a light has roughly to have 4 times the lumen to seem twice as bright. But only a tailcap read will tell for certain what the modes really are.
Well, for me at least, 1-10-100 would be much more useful than 5-50-100. Good to know. Thanks for the info

1–10–100% is ok,
1–30–100% is perfect, :bigsmile:
but 5–60–100% I do not think it’s really useful…….
