Convoy s21e 3v vs 6v

Hi light folks!
I’m gonna get an s21e, and I’m curious about the two options for the xhp50.3 hi emitter options: 3v 6a and 6v 3a.
I just received my first convoy, an m21f with xhp70.3 hi r9050 in 4000k and I absolutely love it! It makes my beloved old zebralight sc62w look bad… so I was thinking I’d want the s21e with the 50.3 hi in 4000k as well, but I want give Anduril a try, and it’s only available with the 3v 6a version, which only has 6500k/5700k color options, which is kind of a deal breaker for me. I’m curious why the 3v driver would have less color temperature options than the 6v, and also curious about any difference in efficiency and/or output between the 3v and 6v drivers. If I want to go with anduril, but can’t bear a 5700k light, would a 519a (which is available in anduril with all the color temp options) come close to the xhp70.3 hi in terms of beam profile and smooth nuetral/warm tint and high cri? I’m down to do some de-doming if that would help.
I’m actually pretty happy with basic UI the m21f has, I just want to experience this Anduril jam that everyone raves about. I guess I should just order a 519a with anduril and the 6v xhp50.3 in 4000k… and stop rambling… ha! Anyways, I just like to learn about all the stuff!

“I guess I should just order a 519a with anduril and the 6v xhp50.3 in 4000k…”

Thats a good start, the efficiency of the 6v boost driver and a taste of customizable Anduril at its simple yet refined enough 1.0 version (in comparison with the earlier Anduril and the latest Anduril 2.x)

Enjoy the rabbit hole downward slide🔦

So the 6v boost driver would be more efficient than the 3v driver? Meaning better run times?
And for whatever reason anduril requires a 3v driver?

Anduril doesn’t require a 3V driver, it’s just Convoy hasn’t developed a boost driver with Anduril yet. Also, keep in mind Convoy only offers Andurul 1.0 at this time. It lacks some of the features of Anduril 2. Hopefully there will be more options soon!

The 3V driver has fewer XHP options due to Cree, the manufacturer of those LEDs. They simply haven’t released lower CCTs in 3V so that’s what we’re stuck with. Most of the XHP line are 6V/12V.

In 3V you can’t go wrong with 519A. Dedomed will be rosier but keep in mind it lowers the CCT from what is stated by, what, maybe 500K? The SFT40 5000K has pretty neutral tint if you want a bit more output and throw.

I love Convoy and don’t mean to steer you away, but if you want a light with Anduril 2 with a boost driver, and somewhat similar to those Convoys, I’d suggest an Emisar D1K (just no onboard charging). You can email Hank and ask of he offers the exact emitter you want.

If you really want to go down the rabbit hole, it’s not difficult to swap emitters on most lights. Start by buying them already mounted on MCPCBs. Convoy is a great place to buy those.

Great info, thanks!
Yea I’ve been looking at some of the Emissar lights too, really liking the smooth lines of the kr1, but wanting a more pocketable edc, hoping the s21e wont be too big in the pocket. I’ll always love my ZL sc62w but just want some new options to play with. I tend to like the side switch over a tail switch, which does limit the convoy options. Wish he did a side switch 18650!
Plenty of other options to explore though…
Such a wonderful rabbit hole to be diving in to!

Ah… The Monkey already dive into the rabbithole…
head first…

Cheers! :smiley::flashlight: @gravelmonkey
