Convoy S21E Review - XHP50.3 HI

[Introduction]
Hello, in this review I will be sharing my experience with the Convoy S21E. I bought mine with a Cree XHP50.3 HI R9050 in 4000k. It uses a 21700. I have had this light for about a couple of months now. In this review I will be talking about the light’s handling, runtime, looks, build quality, light quality and many other things.

[Handling]
This light feels great in hand. It’s not too heavy, it’s not too light. It’s surprisingly small for a 21700 light, but isn’t too small either. It’s of course pocketable too. All in all, this light is amazing to hold and carry. I have no concerns in this segment.

[Runtime, performance, driver and emitter]
This light is extremly efficient. With a boost driven XHP50.3, it offer insane runtimes. Mind, not all emitter choices in this light will have the same driver and efficency. Remember to check this before ordering. This light has a 6 volt, 3 ampere boost driver, specifically. Boost drivers are extremly efficient, and makes this light have the following performance (source: [Review] Convoy S21E XHP50.3 HI R9050):

  • Sustains 600 - 700 lumens for almost 3 hours
  • Holds turbo for almost 3 minutes with moderate fan cooling
  • About 1.5K lumens on turbo
  • Very long runtime on the lowest modes, while still providing usable light.

For runtimes, this is where the light absolutely shines. If you want a light with long runtimes, get this!

[Build quality]
This light is surprising in terms of build quality. I don’t have anything properly expensive, but this is the best light I have within build quality! It feels very well machined. It has no sharp edges, has great anodization and feels like quality to the touch. The pocketclip isn’t completely touching the body of the light though. This makes it not clip properly to pockets, and makes a clicking sound when holding around the light. Except that, there is nothing wrong with the build of this light. It has amazing build quality, and feels absolutely amazing too.

[User interface]
The UI of this light is pretty simple and standard. I would like it’s modes to cycle up from moonlight though. Modes are mostly well spaced. It’s pretty good in general.

[Battery and charging]
This light uses a 21700 battery. I use the included one, a 5000 mah standard 21700 battery. The light also has built-in charging, with up to 2 amps of charging current.

[Light quality]
The light quality of this light is fantastic. The beam has a nice hotspot, enough to light up the path far ahead. The beam also has nice, bright spill, great for walking. The tint is amazing looking. Tint shift is noticable, but not too drastic. The light has a good CRI value, and a nice color tempature. The great beam is caused by an orange peel reflector. To summarize,
the beam is really good, and there is not really anything to worry about.

[Looks]
Lastly, the looks. I got mine in a nice green. This light looks very good. It has some nice heatsinks, a nice stainless steel (I think) bezel and nice knurling. The light looks great all in all.

[Summary, should you buy it?]
Should you buy it? Yes, absolutely … if you are looking for a 21700 EDC. As an EDC it’s really nice. Good weight, size, efficency, looks, handling, build quality, and more. Its hard to find something I don’t like about this light! You can buy the light with or without a battery, links to both listings will be linked below.
