Convoy S7 Stainless Steel Pics

Hey folks, I hope all is well, I just got the Convoy S7 in glossy Stainless Steel and it’s an amazing looking flashlight. I got mine as a host and put a SFT25 in it and a BLF A6 driver as I wanted to see what the SFT25 can do. My last YouTube review was the Convoy S6 and these use the same reflector, so I will do some beam shots later as the S8 using an Osram CSLMN1 and that gets 49000cd these should perform similarly, hopefully.

The Convoy S7 cost me $22 AUD which is like $18 USD I think, not sure about the tariffs, I don’t think you will find a better looking flashlight than the Convoy S7 at that price.

On another note, the new Convoy store is amazing, it’s so well priced, international buyers have never had the opportunity to get more advanced parts like the 17mm 5amp boost diver for such a competitive price.

another S7, if you can add it here (Osram CSLMN1)

Looking good mate, I left the stock tail cap boot on mine, not sure what one I like better now, I got red LEDs in mine.

Wow that really looks great!

How does it handle the heat?

Threads on the stainless s6/7 the same as the current aluminum 18350 tubes I presume?

yes, I rearranged the S2+ aluminum head and everything works. The threads are the same. Short tube 18350 made of titanium. The black one is the S6. The gray tube is S2+ aluminum

Amazing light, love SS. Wil be getting this. Agree new Convoy store is excellent. I am sure Simon saves $$$ from not paying Ali commission.

I picked up a glossy one too, although it’s really more of a lightly-brushed finish which is much better for not being a fingerprint magnet. Mine’s got a 5000K 519a in, I’ve not had it outside after dark yet but it seems like it’ll be reasonably throwy. Of course the Nichia 519 is beautifully neutral. This is a really nice-looking light! It makes my SK05 feel lightweight though.

The S7 stainless steel looks so nice, but unfortunately the material is completely unusable for high power flashlights :sob:

I also see this with my Ledlenser Mod of the OL challenge, without the fat brass pill weighing more than a hundred grams, the LEDs would simply burn out at some point. The heat simply doesn’t get away from the LEDs fast enough. After all, the S7 has a brass pill, which can hardly absorb any heat and then again limits the heat dissipation to the host. Stainless steel simply has far too high a thermal resistance.

I wouldn’t use this host with currents more than 2 Amps or so.

It’s okay but not great these use the smaller pills because the reflector takes up all the space, I might swap out the pill for a normal S2+ one.

It also depends on what you expect if it’s a show light, it should be okay to just turn on and off here and there. I have had a XHP50 3v in a BLF A6 for years now, maybe 3–4 years, maybe longer than that, and It’s still okay.
Personally, it’s too heavy to EDC this light.

At least it has a pill that couples driver and LED well. The driver gets the actual MCPCB temp and can throttle (if it can throttle low enough, apparently many convoy drivers only throttle to 35% at most, and that might still be enough to burn with this host).

The BLF A6 is made of aluminum. With much lower thermal resistance. It’s not about the size, it’s about the material.

For me, the S7 stainless is just a show light. Not for real use.

It’s also doing much higher output, it hits like 12 amps on the highest mode.

Like I said, it’s about the material. I pushed over 15 Amps in a S2+ triple made of aluminum, with no problem at all (only problem is the limitation of the human skin  )

Highly doubt that even 8 Amps will be safe to use in a S7 stainless.

I tried that on a S2(non +) and it didn’t fit.

Your pics look great everydaysurvivalgear! I’m anxiously awaiting mine to come in the mail any day now.

Looks like they sold out already so I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer with my order. I chose a 519A version with the 5A buck driver, along with some other goodies. I’m guessing Simon will make some more, but who knows for sure.

I’m trusting that the S7 will handle the heat and not burn out the LED. As mentioned above, it does have thermal protection so hopefully that will be sufficient if it gets too hot internally. I guess I could put into mode group 8 at 50% just to be safe, but I’m not worried yet.

I’ve changed the sense resistors in the 5A linear driver before in order to reduce the current for other flashlights, but I’m not sure that is possible with the buck driver.

Worse comes to worse, the LED burns out and I need to replace it. For me, that’s a good excuse to mod it and make it even better. AND, certainly worth it given that I only dreamed of acquiring an S7 when I asked Simon about it last year.

Well they are back in stock - that was quick!
