【convoy】SFT70 3000K CRI95 available

Thanks, Simon. I ordered it. Very glad.

Hi Simon,
I would like to encourage you that this is a great project!

Recently I have been searching for a lot of lights for friends and family. Most want a light just like this: Small, bright, supports AA, and most important is the onboard USB-C recharging.

There are not many options out there.
I am very excited for this light - I will recommend/gift it to friends and family.

Hello, Simon
Will it fit the S2 too, this year’s build?

Hello Simon, can you tell if the M3C battery tube is directly compatible with the L6 head?

And in the event that it is, would it be possible for you to put this part for sale separately in the “battery tubes” section of your site?

Where is our gatekeeper to welcome Jaz?? @raccoon where are youuuu??? lol

Eh…
I don’t greet every newbie on BLF anymore.
Their first post has to be a new thread, or they have to introduce themselves, or I have to be able to think of something unique to say to the newbie.

3 Thanks

Always wondered how you were able to keep up with every single one of them. Must’ve been a lot of work! I don’t blame you for taking it easy.

The S9 has a good concept behind it, maybe it could be upgraded? USB-C, and instead of rubber covering the port, have sliding metal cover the port with an o-ring, like how streamlight makes their flashlights

Example:
protac-hl-usb_lens-and-plug-detail2

This would make it more durable and comfortable to hold

@Simon_Mao

Which flashlight/emitter would you recommend to use as a ceiling bounce source on a dining table during a power outage? Because of the location, I’m worried family members cold get temporarily blinded if they happened to look towards the flashlight.

Thanks

Not Simon here but 3x21E sounds ideal. Floody, high CRI, high sustained output, good battery life and thermal mass.

Many of the flashlights Simon sells have a diffuser option, I would recommend looking into those.

I’ve kept a 3x21B charged, and paired with a diffuser, it’s amazing how much light it can put out even on its lowest setting. Place it high to let the light radiate out without blinding everyone, and it should last a good long while.

2 Thanks

Someone on Reddit had suggested a S21E to do a ceiling bounce and this likes a heftier version to look at. Though I suspect I don’t need that much brightness for my application.

Does high position mean lens/diffuser should be above everyone’s head? I’ll have to think about how I would achieve that.

Above eye level would be best to reduce eye strain, in my experience. Test it yourself and see if it’s the same for you.

This might sound counterintuitive, but I think reflector-based throwers are best suited for this. The deeper the reflector, the more it prevents glare and an intense hotspot bounces nicely from the ceiling without needing any external diffusers. You could even surround the light with some obstacles for further glare prevention, or in the kitchen hide it behind a toaster or a coffee maker or whatever.

Also in my opinion, the best leds for this are warm, high cri ones that are more comfortable for the eyes especially if used for a longer time. I wouldn’t go higher than 3000K, since after that blue light starts to spike quite radically within most leds’ spectrum. I also like fully regulated drivers to keep the light level consistent.

3x21A with a 3000k SFT-40, 3x21B with 3000k XHP70.3 (R9050 version is a bit yellow in tint, I don’t know about the R70 version), M21E/C/D or maybe even L21A with a 3000k SFT-40, SFT-70 or GT-FC40… anything with a deep reflector and a warm led.

3x21B is indeed awesome for this, because it turns one of that light’s weaknesses into a strength; the moonlight mode is way too bright, but when ceiling-bounced even that level can give room enough light to be able to move around or eat or whatnot. I wouldn’t try to read or play boardgames at that level, but if you can tolerate yellow tints 3x21B with 3000k XHP70.3 R9050 is very nice. Great as a general use light as well. Anything with a 3000k SFT-40 is awesome too, that led is so good. Not efficient at all, but the light quality is better and cleaner than in any XHP70.3s.

It would be better to put the flashlight on a higher cabinet.

Yes, it is suitable.

1 Thank

It is suitable. It’s just that you need to use different sizes of silicone O-rings.

2 Thanks

The main reason is that 21700 batteries are more popular.Since I already produced the s21e flashlight, I didnt think about upgrading the S9.
