Convoy T4 alternative

Hi all, I’m looking at the Convoy T4, but I’m wondering if there are any torches out there with the same form factor, that put out more lumens?
1,000lm with 2x 14500’s in series is perfect, but if there are brighter options please throw them at me. Cheers.

Convoy S2+ is smaller and outputs more lumens depending on the emitter (SFT40 is great for high output).

Great wee light but unfortunately it doesn’t fulfil my 2x14500 form factor need. Cheers anyway :+1:

If you want to use 2xAA batteries, then the Convoy T4 is an excellent choice, and can sustain approx. 400 lumens with 2xNiMH AA. I give one to my kids when they are at camp, as I don’t want them to be using a light with li-ion batteries.

It is however much longer than many 18650 and 21700 tube lights, and the head diameter is larger or the same as many 18650 and 21700 tube lights. If you are on a budget, consider the Convoy S2+, S21E, and Wurkkos FC11 amongst many other options.

Definitely want to use 2x14500’s.
The SST-20 version is 1000lm, 400 isn’t quite enough with the 519(?) emitter…
I’m definitely after the longer tube, I like the Maglite 2AA torch but their performance is pathetic.

I don't really see anything better than the T4 as the Fenix E25 UE is discontinued.

You could mod the T4 with a different 20mm buck driver to get more current. It would be lithium only then.

Just curious, as I know you have a reason… Why two 14500s in series?
I try to avoid series LiIon configurations. Matching cells is too much of a pain. Serious problems can arise with unbalanced cells…
14500s do not have high capacity compared to 18650 or 21700.
So, what is the magic of series 14500s in your use case? Just wondering…

I’d say, why not? I’ve run many 18650 torches in series for a decade or so. I like the form factor of 2AA but do not have one in my current collection. I want as much punch from that form factor as possible. So my reasoning for 2x14500 is simple - more light from the same size / dimension of torch. Or in the case of the T4 which it looks like I’ll buy, I can use primaries if the need arises.
I may be a new member, but I am not an “amateur” in the world of illumination. I joined here to catch up on the last few years of not being in the game and to add to my collection - also to update a few torches with ones that have more punch with newer technology. The last torch I bought was a Q8, not too long after they were released and a 2X Shooter around the same time or so. They’d easily be my 2 favourite.
I own 6 LiIon torches (many more over the years) , 15 LiIon cells and have never had a problem with serial usage.
I hope this answers your enquiries.

I’m liking this idea.

5A driver

The T4 runs at 3A, so this should be a nice bump in output.

Cheers mate. I think I’ll get on to it now and order the T4 and driver. Cheers.
