Convoy website not working

I bought two lights from Simon’s website in the last two months and then all of a sudden, after Dec 21st, my Avast has aborted the connection to the site for malware and bad script. I’ve put it on the exception list, but it’s still not working. Has anyone else had these issues in the past few weeks?

2 Thanks

I just placed an order a few days ago and I can access it right now without issue.

The site works for me, but I remember someone in the Convoy thread complaining about the site a couple of weeks ago. :man_shrugging:

Here’s the post:

So strange. Must be related to my anti-virus then. Thanks for the input, ya’ll

Every now and then, I do receive warnings from Bitdefender for Convoy website and Sofirn website.

What do you make of it? Legit warnings or just broken bits on the website?

1 Thank

I can access the site but the css is all messed up. Can you help Simon? I need to place an odere soon.

Unrelated, but I would strongly suggest getting rid of anything Avast:

Windows Defender got better than pretty much and (non-enterprise) Antivirus and is free and included in Windows

I hate Windows Defender with a passion.
Windows Defender does not do what I want it to do, so I disable it ASAP on the PCs that I’m responsible for.
I know that Avast is bad for privacy, but it’s otherwise the best free antivirus software option, in my opinion.
I have used many different antivirus programs over the decades.
I have Avast on my mom’s computer and MalwareBytes Premium on my computers.
MalwareBytes Premium isn’t normally free, though. :pirate_flag:

On my PC, if I get a warning, I normally close the tab and try another web browser to see. If still a problem, I try the Bitdefender Safepay browser. If still an issue I go back a few days later. No rush to navigate: often just an outdated certificate. In other words, I do not ignore the warnings from my antivirus. Why installing such a program if I ignore when it doesn’t fit my needs .

If I want to buy from those websites, and get a warning, I look for the same light on reputable reseller instead or AE official site. I don’t want to risk data breaches and I avoid PC problems.

If for some reason I REALLY need to navigate on a half fishy website, I can always open my computer using a Live OS running from a USB to RAM. I will not make transactions using this kind of program. Also no transaction using a VPN. The reason is that I’ve already been defrauded of a credit card and the circumstances didn’t help, but the matter was quickly resolved by the bank when they discovered the location of the fraudster’s IP address. I had never done a bank transaction on a VPN (despite the recommendations of some) and I realized that I would never start that.

By the way, I have heard good things about Bitdefender Free.
The problem with Bitdefender Free is that you have to uninstall other antivirus/anti-malware software to use it, so I’ve never used it.
I understand why Bitdefender Free would make you do that, but I’m not willing to uninstall my other software. :man_shrugging:

Huh, what does it do?/not do? I have not once interacted with it in over 10 years now. It just does its work in the background.

If Windows Defender thinks that your software is malware, Windows Defender will delete it without your permission (even if it’s a false positive.)
Most antivirus/anti-malware software asks the user what to do with any suspicious software, but Windows Defender doesn’t do that.

Which is often good and is how enterprise av is configured where i work too. Quarantine&delete. User will never, ever read any warning and will just disregard it. So i totally understand why they did it…

2 Thanks

Yep, I understand the reasoning, too.
But if you’re a software developer, or if you routinely deal with files that are false positives, it’s infuriating when Windows Defender deletes your files without your permission.
On my PCs, my programs do what I want them to do, or else the programs get disabled/uninstalled.

Ah, fair enough. I don’t have any pirated software on my PC, all I use is either paid or freeware. That’s a reasonable point I didn’t think of.

1 Thank

It can happen to any file, whether it’s pirated or not.
False positives happen all the time.

Apparently, with Windows Defender, the only workaround is to disable real-time protection, put the file on your computer, create an exception in Windows Defender, then re-enable real-time protection. :man_facepalming:

I’ve downloaded a lot of random stuff in the past decade and not one was false positive in defender for me. Smart screen complains about unsigned software (most open source stuff), but that always gives a “run anyway” button.
