Ah, my bad I got too excited and replied before checking the website
For me, yes. Recently got a C8 reflector with 7mm opening. Even after ensuring perfect centering and fine-tuning focus, the hotspot is lopsided, having a very well-defined boundary on one side and a blurry boundary on the other side. An old reflector (ca. 2019) did not have this problem.
I saw there is a Mini C8+planned. Unfortunately not in classic C8 style, but a cool piece nonetheless.

But please, where are the small brass lights? ![]()
Simon, for the sake of my wallet, slow down ![]()
I like this, there is a notion in the enthusiast community that a flashlight is just the sum of its optic and driver, ie “The T6 is just an S6 in 14500”, I feel this is wrong and we should instead associate a flashlight’s identity with its shape like how Simon is doing here, scaling down the entire C8+ instead of just the battery tube.
@Simon_Mao always does a great job with his 14500/AA flashlights!
This looks spectacular!
I put the new 20A buck into my L21A / SFT-90. It’s crazy. Call me weird, but it feels a lot brighter than the 12A FET I had before, even if a FET should push more current with a JP40… Maybe the post instead of the spring helped. Maybe the buck has less resistance than the FET on the other driver (should not). Dunno. I’m very happy. Hard to capture on pictures, but it throws like crazy.
Another fun mod, LHP531 with a 20° pebbled TIR in T4. Very nice floody all-round beam. Pleasantly neutral tint. This light, with 2 eneloops, will probably end up in the car. Sadly Simon does not seem to have a TIR that fits in a T4 without the front glass. Not the biggest fan of pebbled TIR behind glass lens.
Who else thinks that the new mini c8+ should be called the C8-?
How bluish is the SFT-90? I’ve heard some people say that it looks more neutral than 6500k
C8- has a negative connotation.
There’s a reason they don’t market things with language like “Disney Minus.”
I hope that’s true because as far as I know, the SFT90 only comes in one tint right now (and I prefer warmer tints.) ![]()
No!
I am running out of Convoy flashlights to buy, I need more!
Especially some versions with the new LMP 7070 LED and upcoming 9090 one.
An S21A with a 9090 LED would be a dream for someone that loves flood like me.
koef3 measured it even cooler at a bit above 7000K. I can measure mine if I find the time, but I only have an Opple LM4 so… Yeah.
Those two springs Simon was using on the FET driver weren’t able to push it hard enough. I used a beCu spring rated for 20A and measured up to 800 lumens more than those springs. Tried to get Simon to source suitable springs, he agreed to produce them, unfortunately we ended up with 2x 8A springs instead.
Oh, mine had a single spring only that looked like his usual type. Same in the tailcap, which I bypassed.
I received bulk 7mm reflectors and the ones I’ve checked have been okay. I have experienced irregularities of reflectors within the same batch though, most being okay.
The reflector batch differences of gasket thickness seems to have been ongoing for years without anyone noticing. I used to buy a lot of C8+ hosts that came with gaskets for X emitters, I kept them and a while ago I measured the thickness of them all, they were 3535 size and ranged from 0.8mm to 1.2mm. I’ve only been measuring the range for the last 4 years and these gaskets were from before that.
I think back then we all were using more domed emitters, nowadays there’s heaps of domeless emitters with a tiny hotspot making it very noticeable when the focus isn’t spot on.
Try greasing the threads.
At the time I imported 20 or so and did just that to every unit before I could sell them. Lubricating only the threads still caused many to continuing squeaking until the rear oring inside was lubed also. I think it’s possibly two issues that cause it, maybe still the matte ano. I have owned a few other brands that are twist to focus with smooth ano and they’re silent, no lube either. The Nitesun HT11, HT12, Uniquefire H5, 2002D. The threads are like this on them all, so perhaps that helps.
Wish the Z1 had a pill to swap in other combos easily out on the farm. White, red, and IR.
