[Conwat Lights] Gold plated beryllium copper springs now in stock! Any purchases go directly towards the development of my flashlight! conwatlights.com

Hi all, I have been developing a flashlight for a while and have decided that the community might want to help out!

Currently, I only have AMC7135s in stock, but will be adding more parts. If you have anything you think I should stock let me know.

Once my first flashlight is done, I will be releasing them for beta testing.

Check me out! conwatlights.com

Good luck with your shop, and I’m curious to see your own designs down the road!

Thanks very much! I saw your charger and really liked the idea, I would love to help out with the project.

Oh man, I totally forgot I wanted to contact a PCB factory about the protos… It’s been too long. Thanks for the reminder ^^

If they end up working well, I’d love to see them available for sale somewhere - if you are interested, we can chat about it after testing!

I would love to! FYI I am an electrical engineer too if you need any help on that side.

Good luck with the shop!
Looking forward to seeing what that flashlight is like

If you want to stock flashlight/electronic components, here’s some to consider

  • Beryllium Copper springs, they are an easy upgrade for almost all lights and hard to source (aside from Hank)
  • SOIC8 MCUs (Attiny13a, Attiny25, Attiny85), they can be annoying to buy from component stores and can get bricked during reflashing

Hello Connor, good luck with your shop!

In talks with manufacturers now on gold plated beryllium springs

Looking forward to see your models!!

IMHO, I would not be showing a web site that is under construction. The few customers that visit will likely never visit again.

2 Thanks

Just seeing Old Glory proudly displayed is enough to get me to bookmark the site. Good luck, will be checking on progress!

What is the wire thickness used for the springs?

Also, I would suggest including a short health warning not to use grinding tools on the springs due to the toxicity risk of beryllium dust.

What is the thickness of the spring?
Based on the image I’m thinking something like 0.6mm.

1 Thank

Lol, I guess I should have read the other posts before commenting.

2 Thanks

The thickness is about 0.5mm.

0.5mm is rather thin for the common uses (lights with over 10A current draw) and might not be strong enough.

I think somewhere in the range of 0.8-1mm might have been better. Hopefully it still works well, I would buy some to measure the resistance but my meter is not sensitive enough.

I chose such a thin thickness because I am aiming all of my products towards very small lights(all parts of the flashlight will be available as individual products), and I don’t really see anybody getting more than 3A out of a tiny 13mm driver. If sales of the springs are good I will do another production run on beefier ones.

You would have to do a 4 wire test to accurately measure the resistance on these.
